JV had a thing about taking that corner flat.

Don't most F1 drivers have a thing about taking that corner flat?

The challenge for drivers has always been to take Eau Rouge-Raidillon flat out. Regular touring cars can take the corner at 160–180 km/h, Formula One at over 300 km/h.[2] This is due to the huge amount of downforce on the cars. World Champion Jacques Villeneuve once spoke of the effects of the downforces (in 1996, when they were much less than they are today) saying that to get through the corner they have to go faster as the faster the car is going the more downward force there is, thus explaining the phenomenon of Eau Rouge flat out. The years between 1989 and 1993 were arguably the last period where only the most able drivers were able to take the corner flat out, with those of lesser ability having to lift. Taking the corner flat out in a Formula One car is now the norm, thanks to modifications made to the circuit, and the high downforce of modern Formula One cars.

"Mario Andretti broke a couple of ribs in 1985 and was replaced by Alan Jones for the Elkhart Lake race. Jones finished second in what was his only IndyCar race."

Mario broke his hip when he impacted at station 6, mid way between turns 3 & 4 at Michigan. I was working on the other side of the wall. A big hit. I think that Jones was actually third @ Elkhart Lake, either way a great fill in job.

Well, for someone who calls himself "Andretti Fan", I obviously missed a few things. Hahaha.

Nah he just grabbed some race tape from his mechanics, patched himself up, played a soccer match that afternoon then went dancing that night.

Marc Surer is also famous for this bad rally crash that killed the navigator and busted Sures legs up pretty badly stopping his F1 career.

Not just overnight, he has had an operation in Britain right after the race and then again one in France or Switzerland and spent several days in the hospital.

Unfortunately the start bit appears to be chopped off, but that crash looks serious.

That's Fisi's crash. It reminds me of JV's crash in the same place: http://uk.youtube.co...h?v=taPFEhao3A8

Bourdais - ?

Bourdais had a car land on top of his head in the CART race at Cleveland. He was knocked out cold and had to be taken out of the car on the stretcher.
