If the scenerio that occurred at Hungary 1997 had occurred during Fangio's era, what would have happened? If say, P. Bira was leading Fangio with 3 laps to go would Fangio have gone for it?

Assuming that one can find any similarities at all, I am tempted to immediatly recall Nurburgring 1957 so no doubt Fangio would have gone for it...

My head says that you're probably right - my heart says that Fangio would have let the "moral victor" go down in the books as the "real victor".
