Andy had a habit of taking on anything and anyone on the road in his father's bog-standard 850cc Mini Countryman, and usually beat them... this was the only road car I've ever known to get through a pair of front tyres from brand new to bald-to-the canvas in under 100 miles...

That sounds like the Alonso way of cornering... Skate the front wheels accross a corner, difficult to describe, but super effective for the guys that can afford a lot of tyres!!

...mmmn, I think it is quite possible that our paths crossed, just maybe! Further Quarter,Bethersden, Caldicott, Ivychurch whites, Lyminge, Waterworks, that bluddy great canal on the marshes  It taught you how to drive tidily! The road to Rye is quite nice..........

What a great car the 59 was, along with the 69, was this not the last Lotus F3 car that regularly won races?

Ansy's car looked good in KM colours

Giraffe with the Andy Sutcliffe Kent Messenger Equipe, Oulton Park, May 1969.
Note the gloriously liveried matching Ford barge getting more attention than the Lotus 59!!

Thanks so much for posting those pictures, I haven't seen any photos of my time in F3 and yours really brought back some great memories. It was a nice looking car that Lotus, IMHO the 59 was so much better looking than the wedge-front 69; but that Zodiac towcar was the biggest heap of junk. Epic fail by Ford after the brilliant Mk III!

I have finally caught up with the great man (Andy) and we have had a telephone reunion over the weekend. I will be driving over to see him in March and discuss this F3 book I have floating around as a future project. Unbelievably, neither Andy or I have any photos of our years in F3; I was always in front of the car and never seemed to get any of the photos, and Andy's 2 big scrapbooks of all his F2 memorabilia was in the boot of his Mercedes 6.9 when it was stolen.

Maybe you could PM me if you have any more photos perhaps? He would be delighted to see them.

Thanks again, you obviously have a goldmine of memorabilia!

Some great stories has a book been written? I used to know the folk who ran the garage in Frittenden and they mentioned Andy.
