Hi,
you probably have seen me around atlas before but i dont come in here much so i thought i would tell you about some races i saw recently.
I have on video now 1981 Monaca and Jarama. They are two classic races. Especially the jarama one where GV holds off 6 other cars for a win! That guy had balls! Infact they were so big they must have dragged along the floor and he probably had to drag them along and stuff. erm yes.
Anyway did any of you ever see this race? Ive just watched it recently and thought it was awesome.
Ps: I usually dont come in here much because im allergic to moth balls. kekekeke j/k

Come on, Mot, you can read though the old postings!
Monaco 81 was the only GP I saw outside Australia. Fantastic demonstrations from Villeneuve (Moss stuff - never give up till the flag falls or the rear end falls off the winning car on the last lap or something) and Jones.
Shall I write it again?
Go to the tape - is it lap 48 or so that Jones closes on Piquet by over a second. Then the next lap the Brazilian went off his nana, on the rev limiter everywhere, then he crashed. Jones fixed him in one lap. Superb stuff. That night Jenkinson ate green snails outside a place just down from the Casino, but on the other side of the street. Must have had a real strong stomach, that man.
The Spanish I was going to see when my plane was struck by lightning over Frankfurt. That meant they had too many to pack into it, and I could have changed my ticket to the following Sunday night out of Rome. It was tempting, but if anything had gone wrong with connections from Spain I would still be there trying to bludge a lift home from Christopher Skaise.

Hehehe :-)
Part of the story of the Jarama race (the one dealing with the Villota-Borgudd affair)was already published in The 8W site. But I agree that the story of the race (where I was making my debut as marshall) should be told more extensively. Give me a couple of days and I´ll come back...

'ello, Mr. Mot
Nice to see you actually get around some.
No I have never seen either of these two races. I do recall reading a quote from Villeneuve where he described his Ferraris handling in Spain as being something like "a Cadillac with worn-out shock-absorbers"...
(Cadillacs are best known for building American Luxury Land-Yahts with exceptionally soft Suspensions).
I dont think even Giles expected to win that one.
The think the utlimate Villeneuve drive was the 1979 French Grand Prix (where Giles manages to bring home his Ferrari with flat-spotted front tires nearly on fire in second place after much wheel-to-wheel "bumping" between himself and Rene Arounox.) While most of the race wasnt much, the last two or three laps are unforgetable. I recall watching that race live over a lousey CBS satalite feed, and actually being terrified - even though I was 4000 miles away safely in my parents living room at the time.
