Williams FW08 being driven on test by Rosberg in 1982, the car was never raced.

Throw away your fancy clothes
And while you're out there sittin' on a fence
So get off your ass and come down here
'Cause rock 'n' roll ain't no riddle man
To me it makes good, good sense"

You can see it better in this shot taken at the private Williams museum.

Wasn't there an earlier thread covering all kinds of six-wheelers?
Cheers,

Hodges makes a big mistake though, when he says the six-wheeler in his book (p.265) is the FW08, "which was shorter with this possible application (i.e. six wheels) in mind". You can appreciate the short wheelbase on the Daly Monaco '82 picture at 8W. But the car on the picture in Hodges' book is clearly a FW07! Look at the nose, the engine cover and the front (which does not feature the flat drop-down nose of the FW08). It has FW07 written all over it!
So there we are: two separate Williams six-wheelers. The FW07 version (FW07D?) is pictured is Hodges' book (I'll scan it tomorrow at work) while the FW08, which was specifically designed to meet the six-wheeler purpose, is seen on the pictures above, including yours.
Curiously, the technical drawing posted by desmo is one of the FW07. Again, the engine cover and the nose are your best clues. The ones on the drawing and those on the pictures just aren't the same.
BTW, the FW08 car also appeared at Goodwood three years ago and set a hill record at the hands of Jonathan Palmer. With its enormous traction it was made for the hill - Palmer's record stood for another year and was only beaten by Nick Heidfeld's MP4-13 last year (which is a rocketship compared to the FW08!).

Marcel: you're right to go out and get yourself a copy of Hodges' excellent work of labour. It will certainly help you when going for the big points at 8W...
Mark Alan: can't tell by this picture if we're looking at post-season '81 or pre-season '82. The track looks like Paul Ricard, but then you'd expect a sunny test track during winter.
Hodges' claim that the picture was taken in October '82 is most certainly wrong. So it's probably October '81. But what was Rosberg doing in the car that early? Indeed you'd expect Jones or Reutemann to be in the car. It's all rather confusing...
Can someone accurately pinpoint the date of this picture?
Cheers,
R.D

The date I gave on the pic I posted was 1982. I don't know where I got this but I have just seen the same date given in the Guinness 'The Book Of The Car' p127, 1987 edition but one of the authers is David Hodges. Is this the same Hodges as you mentioned above, maybe he is mistaken I don't know. I'll keep looking.

The book arrived btw, so I might have an easier time doing 8W in the future.

But I'm one of the guys (along with Pascal) who didn't get to see JimE's picture... And I still don't. There is something weird going on with that link!
So thanks for noticing ;-)
And yes, of course it's the same David Hodges. Since both Jim and I use the same source, the doubt over whether the year is indeed 1982 hasn't disappeared. Hodges could still be wrong. And I think he is. (At least in claiming it's *October* 1982.)

So Keke it is.
After many many months...
Lole has indeed been sponsored by Marlboro : http://www.forix.com...002_gstand_.jpg and http://retro2.vsni.net/81gp02.htm
But Rosberg's helmet still looks most likely http://retro2.vsni.net/82bra06.htm shows the helmet very much identical and later on in the 1982 season the Marlboro decal on Rosberg's helmet changed to the square logo above the center of the helmet, like we see them these days.
I'm still going with Rosberg in probably 1982 pre-season.
