We do tend to become insular - and in this sense I mean to stick to what we know.
But there has been motor racing all over the world - look at Fangio racing in the twenties in a Ford Special, then the cross-country races that refined his skills.
There was racing in South Africa before the war, there was racing in the Collier's driveway and the Climb to the Clouds. There was a couple of Siamese princes who raced...
I just came across a report on a 1950 race in Singapore, the Johore Grand Prix... and in that race there were at least three L.A. Specials. One was clearly MG powered (1250cc is the only information), another was a Ford sv V8 and yet another was a Maserati chassis with a Jaguar 3.5 motor.
A lot of the Specials mentioned had Fiat 1100 front suspensions, which is something I haven't struck anywhere else... but is there anyone around who knows more about the prolific L. A. Specials?
