Alex Gurney's AAR Toyota Atlantic. I wonder if he feels the weight of that legacy.

Or maybe he can't find any sponsors!

Actualy I'm a big fan of Dan Gurney. I just wish he had more luck with sponsorship. The fact that he is not in CART is just shameful as Mario Andretti would certainally agree.

My jaw dropped when I first saw this photograph! The vision of Dan's early Eagles(yes, I know that this is not an "Eagle"), as well as his 'state-side' pet number#48, is one that I have carried with me for over 30yrs. Those were the days before the "two-edged sword" which is major-sponsorship. This was *the* look of "Dan Gurney Racing"/AAR until 1972, when they switched to white (and a purple one too, for Jerry Grant) for their 'watershed'/record-setting Eagle ChampCar.
I'm also very excited over the prospect of Alex Gurney. He was interviewed during the Atlantics portion of the GP weekend at Montreal last year, and while I don't remember exactly how it went, at the end of the interview he said something about how much he enjoyed being there--near Formula 1, "...where we all want to be."!!! Ho-boy! Let's all just imagine THAT scenario for a moment, shall we?!
Forza AAR
Forza Alex Gurney
Forza Dan Gurney
p.s. trivia: what prompted Dan's use of the #48? hint: it has something to do with football(American).

Oops, after thinking more about it,
1968 was the last time Dan's cars had
the dark blue *with* the white
stripe. '69-'71 was dark blue
only..no stripe.

What's the relationship - son, grandson, nephew, bastard kid?
Whatever, it's something very promising.
