Hey guys,
I finnaly picked up Fascination Formula 1 today. Been eyeing it for a while and didnt want to take the chance of missing out on it so I happily paid the $40.00 and skipped out of the store. I see a copy sold on ebay for just over 20.00 last week, que sera sera. Tons of great reference shots for my model building! Which leads me to my question. I was thumbing through a few books by Bruce Jones. I didnt have time to really digest them at all, as I was excited to get home to drool over my purchase. I see that he has an affiliation with Autocourse which may or may not be a good thing. Can anyone clue me in on his work. I was looking at, The Complete Encyclopedia of Formula One: The Bible of Motorsport, and the other was 50 Years of the Formula One World Championship. Thanks much in advance.

The only book that I think is even remotely worthy of the title Encyclopedia is GN Georgano's book of that name. Jones's book 50 years of Formula 1 is beautifully produced though I feel it's a bit on the skimpy side and that you can do better with Cimarosti's book The Complete History of Grand Prix Racing. This book covers the period from 1894 - 1996, has more depth and costs the same. If you need those last three years then buy the Autocourse annuals.

BTW I just scored a load of books including:
Great Motorsports of the Thirties by John Dugdale
Nuvolari by Count Giovanni Lurani
50 Jaar Circuit Zandvoort
The Cruel Sport by John Daley
Grand Prix Racing by Taso Mathieson

Not a bad haul now I'm looking for Lyndon's book Grand Prix and Motoring Sport by Hans Stuck Sr.

DD, I think that Lyndon's book showed up on a Bibliofind or ABE book search I did several weeks ago. As to the TASO Mathieson book, I am eating my heart out. I have had the Dugdale book for years and still really enjoy it.

And I agree with you assessments re: Mr. Jones. I have the book, but rarely use it. A much better investment is to get the Paul Sheldon books and the latest addendum.

Don, Sheldon's books I think are for historians like you and not really suited for the general public. I did also find the Lyndon book on Bibliofind and will be ordering my copy shortly! For others out there I use Bibliofind and Advanced Book Exchange all of the time to hunt down used books on numerous subjects.

DD, as usual you are correct about the Sheldon books. I find them useful, I seriously doubt that someone just looking for some general background would be very excited at reams and reams of print & basically just data.
