Tonight I got this reply in response to an email from a great friend and someone I think highly of, Rich Barnes, the Atlas Major Domo for all the F1 Atlas Fora:

With the 5/6 hours a day that I need in order to monitor the bickering on Readers, I don't get much time to visit Nostalgia. However, on the odd occasion where I pop in, I have always been impressed by the exceptional standards in your forum. In my
honest opinion, Nostalgia sets the benchmark for all BB's (Atlas and elsewhere) in terms of informed, insightful and non-inflammatory discussion of Grand Prix racing. Congrats on a great job and a fantastic forum.

Regards

Rich

The great job is the one that all of y'all the contributors to this Forum deserve credit for, not me. Y'all make this forum the great place it is. I heartily second Rich's thoughts and once again thank all of you for spending your time here. It means a great deal to me. Thanks!

Once again, DD, who would have ever imagined....?

I agree with Don but I also have a feeling that in another year it will be even better. How can it improve you may ask? In Philately we have something called study groups, which contain in depth expertise on a country, area or topic. I think we already have this with regards to Australia/NZ and maybe to a lesser extent England and Europe. What we’re missing is more expertise from our Latin American friends. I would love to discuss all of the great races held there during the 40’s and 50’s. To this I would add American road racing and also general automotive history. Bring in all of the vintage sports car people, etc. I’ve never wanted to limit this to F1.

I remember getting an email a while back from a gentleman who knew and worked with Alf Francis in the States restoring a 250F, Oklahoma I think it was. Sent me pictures and stories! Boy I wish I could get in touch with him now to join our forum. Recently I received an email from Tim Considine, who wrote American Grand Prix Racing and invited him to join our forum. Where am I leading with this? We must continue to grow add new people to the excellent core we already have and make this a gathering point for people doing research, personal education or just shooting the breeze. The fact that someone as esteemed as Karl would involve himself in our little corner of the net is beyond my earlier dreams but in the time that this forum has been up and running the number and quality of posts has continued to rise and now nothing will surprise me short of Mad Max announcing his retirement on this BB.

DD,

I agree with you 100%! That is why I went to the Readers Comments Forum and put in a plug for the dear ol' NF.

I would dearly love to have more input from those in Latin America. There is just so much I don't know, so many gaps in my knowlege of racing there in the 30's and later, particularly the late 40's & early 50's in places like Brasil.

I am so thankful to Ray, Barry and the many others who have contributed such fascinating information on Racing Down Under. Wow! I didn't know how little I really knew!

It would be great to have Tim Considine drop in from time to time. I nearly fell out of my chair when Karl popped up one evening!!!!

However, as I always say, it was a (giant) leap of faith that dear Bira took when she set this Forum up for one of her favorite renegades. I will be grateful to her forever for her act of kindness and faith. Plus, to my trusty sidekick and great friend, DD.

This puppy got its start on 11-12-1999 20:17 when Bira posted the first topic. We still have room and time to grow. Hooah!!!

Don, send me your address again. I never got around to sending you my Xmas gift. Either I’ll be terribly late or fantastically early!

Got to go home now! Hey this is better than chatting as we have more time to organize our thoughts instead of:

You there?
Yeah I'm here.
What's up?
Nothing
Cool
What's up with you?
