Got this entry in my guestbook a while back.

...I use to work for Alf Francis when he was working for classic motors in Oklahoma city, OK. and when he was in Wichita, Kansas. I spent much time with him and heard lots of stories about him and Moss. I spent a total of 4 years working for him and I learned many things from him. He always told me that nothing was impossible that you could even **** (his words) in nudiest pocket if you tried hard enough. I still think and miss my converstions with one the greatest mechanics that there was and to him everything was possible. I have also worked on one of Moss's old Coopers and did most of the engine and transmission rebuild on the old 250F Maserati that Moss use to race.

I recall reading in his book about how he learned to stay awake on long solitary drives across Europe between races - a trick passed on to him people in the Resistance during the war - something about defecating and running two laps of the truck...
A man of obviously great dedication, the kind of man Walker needed when Moss had a problem, as they struck with those Colotti boxes which had the teeth cut incorrectly. Moss tried to make them live by changing earlier, but later realised that this probably exposed them to more torque...
They battle for months and years with problems like this, yet today the team would be in action the day after the race and have a new bit for testing by mid-week!
Hey, what would Moss have done in today's heavily moneyed climate?
I suspect he'd have gone away and played water polo...
