I have the Snowden book, "F1 Thru the Lens." It isn't bad and has some good pix. Big plus is that it is in B&W...

Of recent general photo albums I would place them in the following order

1. Portrait of the 60's by Schlegelmilch
2. Track Record by Maurice Rowe
3. Through the Lens by Snowden

Forget about 5 days of a Grand Prix. BTW the book I looking forward to is Chris Nixon's book of photographs by Robert Fellowes. Taken during the thirties if it is any way comprehensive and after talking to Chris I get the idea that it is, well that's the one I would buy.

What's wrong withthe "5 days of a GP"? That's the one i had my eye on.

I really want some good photo albumns but not just of cars, human shots, B+W preferably, pit shots etc etc etc. I want a very classy book with excellent photos... i want the pictures to say soemething without needing words.

So far all i have done is scour the Atlas bookshop. All advice is appreciated!!!!!!!!

It's a puff piece that you can get the same pictures from F1 Racing, etc. I prefer a book that covers a number of years not just five days. Been there done that. Get the portrait of the 60s you won't regret it. If you do you don't belong on this forum! ;)

I am looking for stuff like the pic posted of Amon's accident and Clark's face in other recent threads.

Great shots Dennis!!!!!!!
Someday I'll get a scanner and I'll be able to post some pics that Keir and I took at the Glen in the 70s, including the original,
yes the original Budman.

"Madame I have tried everything."
"Well last night I had Ouzzo with some Greeks. Allot of Ouzzo."
"And what was you husband doing when all this Greek and Ouzzo business was going on?"
"The same thing he's always doing the night before a race; trying to sleep."

Yeah, yeah that's what i am after..... shots like that, full of character... even if Hill looks like a porn star!

I might have to grab it but i am reluctant to devote to one era... but i guess if i now own a 60's model car (something weird about owning a car that's quite a bit older than myself) then i have to go the whole way!

Yes that's true but if it was one of the best eras then what's the problem.

Nigel Snowden's first book, 'The Ultimate Excitement,' has a lot of personality stuff, and it's from the very era of your car!
There's a lot of Australian stuff, too, even tin tops!
Chase it down and have a look at it, then when you need the list of errors in the photo captions give me a call. I've got them catalogued.

Alfi, invest in a copy of Track Pass by Geoff Goddard. It covers the 1950-1980 period. It is simply a superb book. Ditto for The Automotive Photopgraphy of Peter Coltrin; Looking Back by Jesse Alexander - with whom Karl Ludvigsen worked at one point in the old Sports Cars Illustrated days; Four Wheel Drift by Mike Lawrence which covers 1945-1959; and, Classic Racing Cars by Goddard & Doug Nye. There are others as well, but you get the idea!

Alfisti, I have "Formula 1: Portraits of the 60's" by Rainer Schlegelmilch as well, and it is just full of terrific photos of all the best known, and some lesser known, drivers of the 1960's. Both racing and individual portraits.

By the way, I just ordered "Jackie Stewart: Triple Crowned King of Speed" by Karl Ludvigsen. Looking forward to getting my Amazon.com shipment any day, Karl...
