Hi!
A midfield driver suddenly gets a top car.
And looks good. Jarier at Montreal and
Watkins Glen in 1978, Tambay in 1982 and
Salo in 1999 (at Hockenheim at least).
Who knows more examples ? Was it easier for
a 60s/70s-driver to take the opportunity
to shine?
The chance of a lifetime !

Keke Rosberg, 1982. Jarno Trulli, 1997. Gianni Morbidelli, 1991. Nicola Larini, 1994. Damon Hill, 1992/3.
What about those who got top cars and failed miserably?

if i remember correctly doesn't Larini have genuine talent but has a few fingers missing or somethign so it really hampers his driving??? I know there is somethign physically wrong with him. He killed them when driving touring cars... then again.. that Alfa was a bit of a beast with Fiat pouring development dollars into it.

You sure you're not thinking of Allessandro Nannini whose Grand Prix career was cut short early by a Helicopter accident that severed his arm. It was re-attached, but didn't have enough mobility for Formula One, but he was a winner in the Alfa 155 in the old DTM series where he was Larini's team mate.

Phil Hill didn't want to wait, hired a Maserati for the French GP of 1958 to show Enzo he should be in the F1 team (only driving Sports Cars to that point)... was one race too early, Ferrari team mate Musso was killed in that race and Phil was the natural replacement...

Any opportunity to see any race on a street circuit is worth the trouble. I don't understand why they are putting it on in winter in Canberra, but that's not the greatest problem... there should be some good vantage points up around Parliament House. If you're not familiar with Canberra, go to the Planning Exhibition near the water jet FIRST.
