Jamesallenonf1: #f1 OFFICIAL - Schumacher gets no points for Monaco GP. Alonso is only 3 points behind Webber and Vettel now in championship - 2 minutes ago via web

Almost certainly a trip to the FIA Court of Appeal then...

From this moment on drivers and teams are going to ask whether this green flag/light is actually green.

Bad decision by the stewards.

Don't think there will be an appeal, based on the 'drive-throughs/post race time penalties can not be appealed" precedent.

Perhaps

Surprised by this, gotta say disappointed too. This aint over yet, I'm sure. Especially now given the penalty and its harshness.

I dub thee... passgate.

What penalty for whoever turned the green lights on????

I can accept under the letter of the law Schumy was incorrect to pass Alonso - but he saw a green flag and from that point of view it's harsh.

We need absolute clarification from the FIA then what that Green Flag was doing there. Because it's a hideous contradiction of the rules, one that involves safety to the maximum level. Someone is to blame for the green light/flag shown. Green means clear to race.

They have completely devalued the flag/light system as well as racing in general.

I hate Schumacher. But this is a bull**** decision. Ross Brawn was absolutely correct in his explanation to Ted. The move was completely legal.

I am a Schumacher fan, and disappointed that the Stewards decided as they did, however since they know the facts, rules and regulations better than me, I will have to accept that what I learned taking my karting license does not hold in F1 racing.

A green flag does not always means green.

I find it an odd decison. but as I wrote will accept it.

I do not think this is appealable.

I'm a Ferrari fan, but I think thats too harsh.

I think Schumacher was right to do what he did on a level, even if I can see the arguments against it.

In such a borderline situation, I think the worst they should have done was to relegate him back to 7th place and then clarify the rule so there's no confusion in the future.

So a green flag is not a green flag anymore? So whenever the next SC is deployed they might as well end the race because you can no longer overtake under green flag conditions.

The trouble with this is no-one is able to think in an unbiased way so its pointless running a pole. So if Mark Webber had turned his pitlane speed limiter on exiting Anthony Noghes the whole field would've been given a 20 second penalty for passing him ? Of course they wouldn't have, this is purely people thinking in a biased way against Michael Schumacher based on their already set perception of him.

So after this I guess drivers should feel free to ignore all the flags then? This makes absolutely no sense, FIA should at least release an explanation of how they interpreted this situation.

You have seen the pictures, you have seen the print out from race control stating the safety car would turn to the pits.

By the statement / verdict the stewards are saying that the green flags we saw, were not green, and should have been seen as and considered yellow.

The result was overturned and Johnny Rutherford won on appeal.

It's clear that no one intended, or wanted, a one-corner race to the finish line at Monaco. Bit harsh on Schumacher as the rules themselves were far from clear, but in the end it was only between 6th and 7th. The real problem, though, was why they changed the rule to have to safety car come off the track on the last lap. The confusion it gave Legard and Brundle at Australia 2009 was a bit of a warning signal.

Schumi's pass was kinda awesome, and I'm far from being a fan of him. But kinda blatantly illegal too.
I guess I would have been happy if he had just been demoted to 7th.

Wrong decision in my opinion. The race didn't actually finish under a safety car, it just happened to come in on the last lap. They were passed the line where you'd usually be allowed to overtake and the flags were green.

QFT. 20 seconds is just too much, when majority thinks he did nothing wrong.
