Hi!
What was the idea behind that "Rose City
10000" F5000 races (1976-1981) so far away
from the capitals of Australian racing?
Did the winner earn 10000 dollars?
The circuit was a bit tight, I have read.
Too slow for the F5000s?
The things they did at Winton

Part of the answer is in the poem, which I'm sure you read because it is in your thread (McRae/Matich)... it was tight, indeed, is tighter today, but grunt out of tight corners counts for much...
The enthusiasm for racing at Benalla Auto Club was such that they had to do it... and some of them loved F5000s and some of the F5000 people, running out of favour with other promoters, were glad to jump on the bandwagon.
As for distance from, etc.. Winton is only a two-hour run from a great deal of the Melbourne metro area.
Subsequently, and possibly as a result of these promotions, they are running an annual round othe Touring Car titles (2-litre and V8), and much of their core enthusiasm has been twisted by the need and capacity to make the old common pay.

Life and love are mixed with pain...
