Hi!
I am looking for help in getting the ashes of my brother, Doug Waters, to Sicily to be put to earth there. The reason is that he was a passionate car enthusiast all his life, and he expressed a wish that his ashes be placed along the old route of the Targo Florio, in a sentimental, whimsical wish to be "present" in some way, as he hoped that it would one day be reinstated.
He was Canadian.
I have talked to the Italian consulate in Vancouver, and they have told me how to prepare the ashes for shipment to Sicily, so that isn't a problem. The problem remaining is how to get them taken care of in Sicily. Apparently, funeral services in Sicily are usually done by the family of the deceased. We have none there, so I am wondering if I can find someone who would be willing to act as family, in this case, related by shared interest and devotion to a common cause.
Have you any ideas about how to accomplish this? Do you know anyone there who would be willing to help me make his final wish come true? Is there any of the original Florio family left there?
Thanks for your attention.
