I have come across a map of the track Lourenço Marques in Mozambique from a friend. I have never heard of this track before, and know nothing about it except for its configuration. Can anyone enlighten me about it?
Lourenço Marques, Mozambique - what raced there?

From The Encyclopaedia of Motor Sport edited by G N Georgano, 1971:
...Portuguese province...circuit just two miles outside the city...2.1 miles or 3.38 km...based on public roads...main straight only 800 metres...return loop was very slow...breaks in the sand dunes along main straight...gusty cross winds...The first three hour race in 1966 was part of the Springbok Series, won by Serrurier and Pierpont in a Lola T70...July 1967 seven spectators killed when Botha's Brabham crashed in a minor meeting...Hawkins' Lola-Chevrolet T70GT won the 1967 three hour race...Guthrie/Hailwood won the three hour in 1968 in a MIrage...De Udy/Frank Gardner won the same event 1969 in a Lola GT.
That's all they had. No map. I would be interested to see the one you have.

Wow, I just realized that there were THREE circuit configurations at Lourenco Marques!
1960: 1.627 miles
1961: 1.964 miles
1962 onward: 2.089 miles
I don't have a scanner here in my quarters, but the maps are in Peter McIntosh's A Record of South African Formula 1 Races.

Don't tell me, the F1 record was set by a Cooper with an Alfa 1300 engine bored out to 1500?
