Regarding Alan's query, all of the GP demo cars were handled very competently and managed all three hairpins without a problem. I thought that Mr Eckersley was rather busy, so I didn't engage him in conversation :)

Stealing Bauble's thunder, I would say that it is Peter Greenfield in the ex-Seaman/Ruesch/Poore 8C taken at the 2006 Donington 'See Red' meeting. Would that be correct, Bob?

It was great weekend and nice to meet up with Alan. We went to Goodwood Friday then via Poole Sat morning in time to cover rally and then racing on Sunday. We now have full gallery on www.retro-speed.co.uk

The MS11. Along with the Weslake V12, the Matra engine is a work of art and the sound reverberating off the walls of a street circuit is something else.

I remember the 1968 Monaco GP where the MS11 made its debut. The works brought two cars for Beltoise and the sight and sound of the cars as they ripped through Casino Square during practice was fantastic! Unfortunately Beltoise didn't last very long in the actual race!

A fantastic noise, isn't it, Steve? J-PB was at Angouleme last weekend, but he didn't actually demonstrate any of the Matras, sadly. He did, however, eat his share of the oysters at the Saturday evening gala.

Another most enjoyable weekend spent in the Charente region, and the Circuit des Remparts. A few samples from Sunday...

I don't know what Howard Thomas (MGB) had done to upset Rick Cutting, but their battle was rather fraught.

Hope you informed everybody of the history of the Dolomite Sprint in British Touring Cars Alan :)

The most amazing thing, having visited one recently of these bike revivals, was the noise of multi cylindered two stroke engines - for me that was nostalgic

Classic Sports cars raced at Oulton Park today. The word "classic" being stretch way beyond its elastic limits, imho. Just because a car is ten years old, it is not necessarily a classic.

However, even when the racing is as dull as the proverbial ditch-water (the lake is full of blue-green algae) it is possible to find something of interest.

My Thunder? Stolen? How dastardly!!

For further pictures of this and many other events please see my usual web site www.picasaweb.google.co.uk/rbmapics where you will se that the Alfa spent a fair amount of time gyrating at the Chicane that day.

Thanks for saving my blushes, as I no longer have the programme, I could not have answered all of the original query.

It's funny, isn't it? Like Pete, my initial impression was that the Oulton paddock contained little of 'classic' status. But then in 1974/5, 'historic' sports car races regularly contained Ford GT40s and Lola T70s, cars that had been competing at Le Mans only five or six years beforehand. Many of the hatchbacks we saw on Saturday were at least twice that age, yet none would be regarded as icons. The older we get, the fresher stuff seems to be.

Here, meanwhile, are a few cars that never competed in the Ford Fiesta Challenge...

Believe it or not Mr Arron was by the lake when I took my shot and his image must have been taken a couple of laps earlier....both showing equal lack of imagination :)

I hope someone will be able to post some pictures.

ahh - well if you want pre-historic I think you needed to be on the Algarve!!
For all that the HSCC "Finals" is normally a very nice meeting with a definite end of term feel to it.

With more than three score years and ten on the clock ..... well I'll leave it to you to work out where I fit in the 'pre - historic debate!

I was at the meeting and have posted pictures on the usual site (link below) no apologies for the quality, the nearest I get to Jeff Bloxham is about four feet. My big advantage is that all can be downloaded free of charge.

Just to put things in to context Eric and I regard Jackie Stewart as one of the new young drivers.

You appear to have read something into my Post that wasnt intended. I am well aware of how enjoyable the HSCC October finals meeting can be, thats why I was there again this year, enjoying the sights and sounds of respective Alfa Romeo's, Lancia's and even (albeit briefly!) a De-Tomaso in the saloon car events. However, I still find it odd that The Historic Sports Car Club dont have at least one race for Historic Sports Cars. Admittedly, as my friend Mr Bauble points out, one's definition of 'Historic' can depend on ones age and here I must own up to being an old codger who cant tell a Marcos from a Ginetta and considers any single seater with slick tyres to be 'Modern'!. I know that these strange machines bring a great deal of joy to the majority of forum members and I am truly happy for them, but my day would really have been made by a couple of C and D Type Jaguars and maybe a Ferrari and 300S Maserati. Pre-Historic and proud of it! .

It is a great shame that BRDC dont have the Historic Sportscar Championship any more as that was a natural fit. The current version run by Legends doesn't seem to be quite the same as it is more in the "Masters" model.

But we don't need to get into the politics of how the HSCC were robbed of those cars thirty years ago.

The HSCC announce that the E Type Challenge is to continue next year:

E-type Challenge continues in 2012
The E-type Challenge, created in 2011 to mark the 50th anniversary of the Jaguar E-type, will continue in 2012 when the HSCC will run E-type races at a series of high profile historic race meetings.
Although initially conceived as a one-off programme to mark 50 years of the iconic British sports car, such has been competitor support that the HSCC has decided to repeat the series next season. A programme of five or six events, with some double-headers, is being planned, with at least one date on mainland Europe.
A total of over 70 cars registered for the 2011 season and a record-setting grid of 52 cars competed in a pair of races at the Silverstone Classic in July.
“We spoke to the competitors towards the end of the season and there was widespread support for continuing the concept in 2012,” said HSCC executive director Grahame White. “We plan to run it on very similar lines next season, once more with very thorough scrutineering. There is a pool of around 70 cars ready to race and we are keen to offer them a series of dates at significant historic race meetings. We hope to release the full schedule shortly.”
The series, managed by the Historic Sports Car Club, in conjunction with Jaguar Heritage, was supported by JD Classics in 2011 and runs with two classes, for cars prepared to period race trim and standard cars.
