Lovely shots in your gallery, David. An excellent website, too.

Thankyou, much appreciated. Great way to spent a morning, just wandering through the paddock taking some pics.

Unfortunately the Air Cadets band' slot coincided with the F5000 race and they were rather drowned out

Was the band a new addition? (I've not spotted them before) quite a surprise when marching towards you in the paddock

Cheers,

They would have been even more drowned out had there been a decent number of F5000s there.

Just a few pics from today at Donington, for the Masters meeting.

A tense battle for the lead of the saloon car encounter. Jason Minshaw (here following) eventually found a way past Simon Hadfield (Leo Voyazides' Falcon) to win.

Saloons at Redgate

Paul Knapfield's fabulous Ferrari 512M - an early retirement from the World Sportscar Masters race with gearbox(?) problems.

Leo Voyazides takes first stint in his T70 IIIB on his way to victory with Simon Hadfield.

Ron Maydon with Sid Hoole's Alfa 33

Karting Legends organised a display and demo of historic karts.

A beautifully restored Keele

Hi Alan will be at Goodwood only on Friday then down to Angouleme and Circuit des Remparts for Sunday. Surely the better event!

You seem to have set yourself a pretty tight schedule. Hope to see you on the Ramparts, Peter :)

Leo Voyazades somehow contrived to stuff his Lola T280 up the backside of an inexplicably early braking (IIRC) Aston Martin on Saturday. A combination of the Hadfield's fibreglass man and the artist now known as "Simsy :) " created an astonishing replacement "lookey-likey" front end for today's race.Even the headlights are facimiles.....

I often wonder if Emanuele Bendini treats his Chevron B16 the way he does because it's only a continuation car?

It was actually 5th gear that let go, and I know that because TNFer Pink Snail has it and tells me there's only one tooth left on it!

Anyway, he must have passed the interview because Steve Hartley finished a brilliant second to Rowland Kinch from well down the grid.....

Signor Benedini (the programme omitted one of his 'e's) also inflicted this on the winning Lola while being lapped under waved blue flags. More work for the bodyshop...

Ref Steve` gearbox Tony, it was 3rd cog that lunched itself on the housing :drunk: . Steve tried to finish the first race using 4th&5th, only for the whole thing to `go to lunch` :well: . That he even got to the grid on Saturday was an achievement after the last minute repairs to the front wishbone  . Shame about the Safety car period on Sunday (Ian Simmonds was VERY lucky to suffer a badly broken foot!! ) otherwise the race would have been a humdinger although it did entertain. Steve Hartley came steaming through from the back to 3rd on the 4th lap  !! Great weekend all told and all being well I will post some pictures very soon. BTW, it was nice to meet Simon Hadfield  at last and Ben Mitchell  - another 2 TNFrs on my list!

On Sunday morning Richard Piper's McLaren M8F was sitting in the pit garages, but then suddenly dissapeared and sadly didn't run. Does anyone know if it was out on Saturday and also what is the history of this car that IIRC Richard has owned for many years now?

He finished fourth, one lap down. Don't know why he failed to make Sunday's race. He would have been a most welcome starter in a somewhat thin field.

Entry list for the CER event at the Silverstone Six Hours meeting next Saturday

http://www.classicen...Silverstone.pdf

TNFers were few and far between last year at this terrific race with a French twist supporting the Silverstone Six Hours today. At least we have Roger Wills in his Chevron B26 upholding honours in a race similarly mounted Gareth Burnett won for TNFer John Ruston Last year in "Chocolate Drop"

History of the Chevron Roger is racing today:

No, B26-02.

1973/4 Springbok Series works car driven by Watson and Ian Schecter
1974- John Lepp- "semi works"
1974-8 - Bob Marsland
1978-85 - Richard Simms
1985-87 - Duncan Bain
1987-89 - Lief Lindstrom
1989-90 - Robin Smith
1990-97 - Simms/Jim Evans
1997-06 - Jack Russeli
2007-2010 - Murray Smith

I shall be there sporting my new black TNF fleece.

The one-hour Classic Endurance Racing 2011 event at Silverstone (10 September) started in heavy rain that allowed Martin O’Connell to establish a commanding lead in his Chevron B36 that he was to maintain until the end. Second was the Lola T 286 DFV of Dominique Guenat with Roger Wills' Chevron B36 third.

I'll have to ask Roger about that, but as with "Chocolate Drop", I suspect that if the original bodywork exists, it's kept for exhibition purposes only (& for when you move it on.....).

In a rather feeble attempt to bring the thread back o/t, here is Tom Kristensen pictured at the weekend who drives the "spectacular" Audi pictured and also drives in historic racing and who will be seen doing so at the Goodwood Revival which he firmly confirmed to me that he loves.....

By giraffe138 at 2011-09-12

.... and his partner in the Audi, Alan McNish who has a career dating back far enough to qualify easily for an appearance on TNF, I would suspect (& hope!)

Dear Davidson,
I appreciate your sentiments, this is no place for such modernistic monstrosities, however, I felt that we were seeing too much from the 21st century, and decided to try and bring matters to a head by showing the offending images, believing that such would be the opprobrium, that future posters would stick to the spiirit of the thread, and indeed the forum itself.

I hope the following will go some way to restoring my credibility in your eyes.

I remain your humble savant,

Another most enjoyable weekend spent in the Charente region, and the Circuit des Remparts. A few samples from Sunday...

Former Ligier and Larrousse driver, Erik Comas, proved to be a real class act in taking two races with his Alpine Renault A110

Two-times Le Mans winner, Jean-Pierre Jaussaud, at the wheel of Henri Pescarolo's Matra MS11

Justin Maeers had a narrow win with the Parker-GN from Tim Greenhill's Wolseley Hornet

A damp track caught out Sue Darbyshire, bringing fellow Morgan driver Gary Caroline to a dead halt.

Bugatti GP race winner Gregory Ramouna was superb value, as ever.

Porsche 911s don't generally interest me greatly, but Luxembourgeois Francis Kienert was spectacular to watch..

...as was Angoumoisin Damien Kohler.

I don't know what Howard Thomas (MGB) had done to upset Rick Cutting, but their battle was rather fraught.

Thanks for that - pleased you like it. No shortage of opportunities for shots like this at Angouleme. Photographers' positions just behind the barriers, and no run-off areas, just as they were many years ago. I think I'm right in saying it is the only circuit still in use which hasn't been altered in layout since racing was first held there in 1939.

From the Matra demonstrations

The Type 120C

The MS630

The Type 610 Coupe Napoleon - a replica as the original was broken up by the factory

The MS11. Along with the Weslake V12, the Matra engine is a work of art and the sound reverberating off the walls of a street circuit is something else.

Yes, Mark, you must. It's always held on the third weekend of September which, in recent years, has tended to clash with Goodwood but as the date of Goodwood is governed by the vagaries of the GP calendar it is possible that one year they won't overlap. I know one or two TNFers who have said they will make a visit if there isn't a clash of dates.

Fabulous Alan. I know you enjoy the Circuit des Remparts, but this year looks a good one.

2 questions. How did the F1 cars get around that hairpin and did you have a chat with Julian Eckersley as he motored past - you looked very close!

Regarding Alan's query, all of the GP demo cars were handled very competently and managed all three hairpins without a problem. I thought that Mr Eckersley was rather busy, so I didn't engage him in conversation :)

Stealing Bauble's thunder, I would say that it is Peter Greenfield in the ex-Seaman/Ruesch/Poore 8C taken at the 2006 Donington 'See Red' meeting. Would that be correct, Bob?
