Welcome to Historical Research, a sub-forum which has been established for the benefit of members who wish to undertake more serious research and discussion of of topics relating to the history of motorsport. To begin with, appropriate threads from the main Nostalgia Forum have been transferred here. In many cases these threads have been edited in order that the topic in question remains the main thrust.

By no means all qualifying threads have been included; more will be added as and when they are revived, and suggestions of older threads for inclusion are most welcome. If there is a thread you think is appropriate for consideration please let us know by posting a link to it (by copying & pasting the URL) on this thread. Naturally new threads can also be created, providing they meet the overall criteria.

Finally, as well as wishing all who spend time in these confines a pleasant and rewarding experience, it's important to note that this is strictly a 'fluff-free' zone. Any threads or posts deemed irrelevant, detrimental or superfluous will be removed.

I suggest that members finding it appropriate that a thread should be moved (and there are lots of them) to this sub , write the moderators , that way a lot of fluff will be omitted
(nothing personal).

If I go to "View New Posts" I get all the other stuff too - all of the Nostalgia Forum - is this so?

I have been attracted by the idea that this forum is now much narrower but if the above is correct it is still too cumbersome. Add the complications of posting images and it seems to me to be hard work.

I've never used 'view new posts' till just now

If you go to the main Nostalgia Forum menu page, a yellow box against the name of each new thread indicates which have new posts since your last visit. No box - no new posts. Same applies if you go from there to the Historical Research menu

Thanks, that does help.

There is one issue about the new forum that I'd like to see addressed.

A few days ago I started a thread in the main TNF forum as that's where 95% of the traffic is. It received some input but then it was moved to the research forum. For some reason - and I don't understand why this happens in IP Board as it's not a problem in vBulletin - my subscription to the thread is then lost. Presumably that means everyone else who had posted on it or otherwise subscribed to it loses their subscription too.

Fortunately, the guy who posted on it the other day emailed me to tell me. Good thing or I might never have seen it.

Subscriptions need to be preserved. Can we get this sorted out please?

It was moved to the HR sub-forum because it was a Historical Research topic

It might get only 5% of the traffic, but it's the right 5% :)

I'll leave it to someone else to answer the subscription question - it's not something I know anything about

David, if you post something like "Moved to Historical Research subforum [because .....]" before you move it, then Allen would receive notification of something being added to his thread. (I know - it's a crude workaround)

Regarding Allen's point, I have no idea whether this is a new phenomena or otherwise. That said, I've drawn it to the attention of our technical guru who will, I'm sure, address it when he gets an opportunity.

This may well prove to be when the entire BB gets shut down for major maintenance some time in the coming weeks.

Hi David,

How do I do this (from Help) "You can view which new topics have new replies today by clicking on the 'Today's Active Topics' link found at the bottom of the main board page" - I can't find this although maybe I don'lt need it.

Is there any way of reading the most recent post in a topic first or at least having it at the top of a page?

Alongside each topic on the index page...
http://forums.autosp...hp?showforum=10
... is an orange square - clicking on that takes you straight to the latest post

I would like to attach a photo from the 1974 Canadian Grand Prix and ask for identification of drivers shown. Not sure how to attach the photo.

Please advise. Jeremy.

Good to see that this forum has been dedicated to David McKinney. It would be great to recognize other departed automotive historians, even though they were never TNF contributors: Bev Kimes, Scott Bailey, Griff Borgeson, Dean Batchelor, DSJ, Bob Nitske, and others. Should we do this here, or should I start a new thread?

It is actually the sub-forum itself that has been dedicated to David McKinney, not just this thread.

Hello there..been a while since i posted here ...just a quick question...i was trying to repost a picture in one of my old posts ( 2007) from the archive but it seems to be closed.

I would love to see it revived again since i still have no identification despite more research. Not sure if it is relevant enough in terms of motorsport history but i'd love to give it another go,maybe somebody has joined the forum who can shed some light on the matter...

regards Marty
