Will Alonso ever win another title?

I can't immediately think of another driver who added a title after such a gap, so history is not on his side.
What do you think?

Six seasons completed now without Alonso winning the world championship.

Perhaps not next year but possibly in 2014 if Ferrari manage to out do Renault/Red Bull on engine performance.

there was 7 years between Lauda's 2nd and 3rd title, for example.Six seasons completed now without Alonso winning the world championship.

Also, since his last title, he has been within a few points of the champion three times out of six (2007, 2010 and 2012). In 2008 and 2009 the car was average and in 2011 RBR was unbeatable. So that proves it.

I don't have a crystal ball, but I hope not.

I hope he never wins again as long as he stays at Ferrari! I will never forget how they treated Kimi to hand Fernando "the better development driver" Alonso that seat.
Things got even worse with how they treated Felipe to make that spanish Brat look like Gold or God!

he has to be favourite for next year surely. RBR are gonna struggle to do four in a row, Mclaren have no drivers and Mercedes will need a year to regroup. It's vettel or Alonso next year so you'd think with such a reliable car Ferrari can take a few risks.
Well I wouldn't write off Kimi/Lotus so easily... They are on the up!

If he will or wont win another, depends mainly on Ferrari. Not Alonso.

Question is, is anyone other than Vettel ever going to win another title?

I'm not a fan of Alonso, but he will be very hungry for next season. This is for sure. The others should be awake then.

He is in one of the best teams and one of the best drivers. He will remain the sport for at least three years and has thus a good chance to do so. We will see.

Painful stat: if Alonso scored 13 more points in three seasons he would have been a five-time world champion with three different constructors.
I think if you did the same for Kimi, you would find that Alonso would have lost two titles to him. So it goes both ways. As always, the 'what if' argument is always more complicated that it seems.

Painful, but to be realistic nobody has won 5 championship fights out of 5. Alonso has won 2 and has lost 3, it can be considered normal.
Even Schumacher, the most succesful driver, lost 3 championships in the last race and another one because of an injury.

I believe he will, took Schumacher 4 years at Ferrari to get his title with them.
...
When Schumacher came to Ferrari it had not won a championship for 17 years and the team was in a much worse shape than in 2010 when Alonso arrived.

Much worse shape? Remember the 2009 season. The previous seasons don't count, because the regulations changed a lot in 2009.

I don't think the original point is about the car being bad - which was anyway a one off as you say because of the rule changes. I think a 17 season poor run indicates a fundamentally poor race team/processes, rather than a one-off design issue with the race car.

Ok, fair enough. But the team was also in bad shape, I remember lots of strategic mistakes in 2008 and 2009. Although probably not as bad as when Schumacher joined as you say.

Massa, bar the last couple of races, has been trash this season. How on earth does he deserve it more?

What kind of fan wishes for another driver to not win a WDC ever again?
Fans who don't support said driver and would rather their driver won instead?
