With Lewis moving to Mercedes he has a chance to create "Brand Hamilton" part of that is in his helmet design, do you think he will keep it Yellow or switch things up maybe going for another colour?

Someone on another forum mentioned he could end up sticking with Arai helmets as his helmet painter Jason can't/wont use Schuberth, which im not sure is possible considering Mercedes sponsorship deal with Schuberth.

Please explain the reason behind your colour choice.

Somebody quoted in another thread Jason tweeting that he'd received the designs for the 2013 helmet, so I guess it's either an Arai or he's learning how to paint Schuberth. Either way it seems he's staying with JLF.

I can't see any reason why he would change his existing design. Its followed a similar design throughout his career and hope it remains the same.

What is the official rule on two drivers having the same colour helmet? If its that much of a problem with commentators not being able to tell the difference, then something can be added to the livery of the car no doubt. Helmet design is often very dear to a driver unless you are one that changes it every race and I doubt they can be made to change if they don't want to.

I don't see why one needs to change, I generally look at the T cam anyway. I was thinking along the lines that this "brand Hamilton" is an opportunity for Lewis to maybe make a change with his helmet.

Although personally I would prefer to see it stay Yellow, if i had another choice it would be black as it would fit in the the Monster sponsorship.

There isn't a rule, it's just a hint about why it might change. Lots of drivers do, to fit in with the new team, perhaps as a subtle variation on what went before.

Hakkinen and Coulthard both had blue helmets, Barichello and Buttons were similar as well.

He might change it a bit, or Rosberg could go blue like his dad?

Impossible to say of course but i think he might continue with the different design for each race thing, who knows though. Might even borrow his brothers design/colours, just swap the N with an L!

Could there be a change from Arai to Schuberth for aerodynamic reasons? Both Nico and Michael used Schuberth so it could be that the car has been designed to take this into account, it may make very little difference. I haven't compared with other teams, but how many instances are there of team-mates using two different Helmet brands?

Off the top of my head Lotus and FI have different branded drivers.

Mercedes have a partnership with Schuberth for me that indicates that he would be changing. http://www.schuberth...chuberthmodules[setisto]=2

Lewis already tried Schuberth back in 2010, but then he stuck with Arai for the rest of the season. This helmet was painted as well, so I can't see why JLF Designs couldn't do it this time. (Unless this one has been painted by somebody else.)

Me too, I think he will just have it modified with MB branding. I hope he keep the arai helmet too. It looks tight.

Lewis helmet colour is so iconic and a big part in his recognizability. The colour and design stands out to the point that it is impossible to confuse him with any other driver, and the Senna links makes it even cooler. It would be disaster to greatly alter his helmet design.

You sure it's not Schuberth having a deal with the drivers because they are German? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe their test driver Sam Bird uses Schuberth.

Sounds like one of those things trotted out on forum and then accepted as fact. Seems fairly nonsensical reasoning for not having a Schuberth. Hamilton has tried one before, and I'd guess the reason he hasn't run with one is because he prefers the Arai, not because soembody can only paint the Arai brand of crash helmet. :drunk:

There was an excellent mock up posted in the Lewis Hamilton thread when he was announced as a Merc Driver. Looked pretty real

I'll try explain it the best way I can:

-Original Colour Helmet
-Monster Logo as per usual position
-However the face was dark grey

Would be great if somebody can find that design or knows what I am talking about. That design would help to distinguish LH from NR.

That is exactly how I think it will look, proper cool design. Not sure where I saw the grey face though!

That looks perfect IMO

I hope Hamilton doesn't change the brand of his helmet. I dislike the modern, almost 'Clone Trooper' shape that we see on drivers like Alonso, Kimi, Schumacher etc. I prefer the classic shape.

If he wants to create a brand and with the helmet as a part of that, it's got to remain yellow 100%, because it's a very recognizable design and it's got history already.

One day the static helmet design with minor variances, and the big numbers on cars will come back to fashion as retro devices, and I don't think it will take many years. The marketing lot must read the forums and know how much fans like that sort of thing, and will eventually try to capitalize on that. They just have been superseded by the design lot which likes to do arty modern stuff (let's be honest the classic blocky designs whilst nice to the racing fans have zero artistic value), and have preferred to invest on the hype of "special" "one-off" designs which happen to show up at almost every race. It's a bit of a shame.

Schumacher had the same problem in 2000 when Barrichello joined Ferrari, also with a blue starry top. Schumacher himself wanted to avoid the mix-up (who wouldn't :p ) so he changed it of his own will.

The white design is nice but not the ideal colour to stand out on a silver livery. It would look fantastic if he drove for Ferrari, RB or Lotus. Anyway, I hope he stands with his actual design.

Nice mock up, but I still want him to keep his classic yellow design. Its instantly recognisable to him and I prefer it when drivers keep that part of their identity throughout their careers.

Wow, that looks fantastic! Great job DaiMOn.

Like many have said the yellow colour/design is synonymous with Hamilton, i'm undecided though, maybe something new and different would be appropriate since its a new start for him.

EDIT: The advert banners around the helmets (Monster in this case) seem to be getting more and more obtrusive, can't help but think how much better and uncluttered modern helmets would look without them.
