He didn't, because the FIA doens't ban this. Of course it's allowed to have your nation flag in your helmet. Sergio Pérez had the Mexican flag on his helmet top last season for example.

I hope he keeps the same basic design; whether or not I 'like' it I much prefer drivers to stick with the same fundamental design throughout their career rather than the new paint job every week approach.

Button changed to a union jack styled JB logo because that could be copyrighted while the union jack couldn't. If he had stuck with the union jack rival companies could have made unofficial identical helmets and there would be nothing JB could have done about it.

Seems possible, surely they wouldn't be able to copy any logos on the helmet that would be needed to make it look real though?

zack, while I prefer the old design, in my opinion the quality of picture is not helping. There is a smaller image available which looks much better.

It's a bit oversaturated because of the Instagram filter, but it looks good IMHO.

That definitely looks much better than the first image and my original impression. I still prefer the older design however, this one just seems too fussy, with too much of the yellow removed and altered. I just noticed that the symbol on the red side is LH, his initials, that's not a good sign or perhaps I'm just slow.

Bit too much of a mish-mash with the shading, etc...
Loses a bit of visual impact (especially from a distance) but at least it is still mainly yellow.

I like the new(?) 'LH' logo....bit like a gear-shift pattern

Waiting until the release of some higher quality pics before coming to a conclusive opinion, but preliminary it looks fine, and for those who think the yellow is stronger, if true this might be our first clue that Nico's also keeping his helmet yellow, with Lewis attempting to establish greater differentiation between his and Nico's.

A bit off-topic - but I wish that Drivers would simplify their helmets.

Never been a huge fan if Hamiltons because I feel it's too much of an unacknowledged rip off of Senna;s helmet (that is my opinion - and it's not really worth an argument) - but I will say this- you COULD see him in a Grand Prix.

Damon Hill had a great helmet - taken off his Dad's (the London rowing club - navy blue with white vertical stripes.

Problem with new helmets is you can't describe them. I'm an Alonso fan - let's take his.... well - it's yellow with red and blue - or is that blue with red and yellow? The "perspective (from side - upward "swish")is reasonably consistent, but i challenge you to separate the helmet from the race...

I voted Black because;

*Lewis has set himself up to be the DARK HORSE in 2013 deservedly with he's brave move to Merc.The Colour fits in a positive way even more so than Enstone using it
*Lewis will have more individuality instead of trying to associate himself with Senna and the yellow helmet.
*Lewis is proud to be black so why not have a black helmet.Awesome colour really.I'm loving the Black parts of the new Ferrari just incase you think I'm predudiced against the colour black!

Like all the drivers (with the possible exception of JB's) it's a bit of a mess, just recognisable as his lid. The Monster logo doesn't do it any favours either.
