Now is a great time to bet against Vettel with Spa & Monza coming up (maybe with the view to back Vettel after Monza)
Last year Vettel hit 10/1+ for the championship after Monza!
I've got some decent money on Hamilton at around the 15/1-20/1 mark (mostly after Silverstone) so I am excited about that. I don't fancy Raikonnen personally, Spa might be good but I don't expect Lotus to be anywhere near consistently strong enough for Kimi. No Lotus beating a Merc around scorching Budapest seems a little ominous in my opinion

Why would you bet against Vettel? That would be throwing away money. Don't forget, in the last few races we have all the Red Bull/Vettel tracks like Singapore, India, Korea, Suzuka.

Some really good odds on either Williams driver to win the race in Melbourne. So tempted to put a fiver on Massa.
Posted 03 March 2014 - 13:36
Where do you guys bet?
(i.e. which bookie offers the best odds / best bet selection).
I am with Bet365 and cannot bet for pole for instance.

Im using William Hill and they usually open up the bettings for pole/fastest lap/podium finishers..... etc in the build up to the race, usually the week of the race. William Hill has only got bets for the win open ATM.

Betfair here.
Williams do attractive, BOTTAS floats my boat more. However, the unpredictability of F1 right now has meant betting on anything other than a win is pretty pointless as the odds are fairly short and the possibilities of, say, BOTTAS getting a podium or even points are far from guaranteed with reliability being such an issue.
Might hold off until after FP1/2 before putting my money were my mouth is, the risk and reward just isn't there for me right now. Although on second glance something that does appeal to me is Vettel for pole, odds are obviously long right now but i'm convinced that RB is just as quick as ever and if they can put a decent Friday together i could easily see him upsetting the current predictions, for Saturday anyway!

I got a fiver each at William Hill on
Sergio Perez @ 33/1
Kimi Raikkonen @ 14/1
Valtteri Bottas @ 20/1
Nico Hulkenberg @ 28/1
It looks like each way on William Hill is the podium. It was just 1st or 2nd last year.
Posted 10 March 2014 - 14:36
So you get 14/1 on Kimi winning but what's the return on him getting a podium? He's currently only 3.25 for a podium finish on Betfair.

Lewis @ 5/1 £125 WDC
Button @ 25/1 £100 WDC
Mag @ 40/1 £50 WDC
All before testing started....
Going to have Button at 10/1 to win the first race as he loves the track.
Posted 10 March 2014 - 20:32
When was the last time Seb was 18/1 to win and 16/1 for pole??? (Paddypower)
Safety Car/Merc pole double is tempting. Maybe add Marussia 0 finishers to that list
I've already gone Seb DNF at 6/4 as my consolation bet
Posted 10 March 2014 - 23:37
How about a tenner on Chilton to finish in the first 3 @ 200/1... Though my money is on the safety car.

Button to win in Oz is a very tempting bet
Just got a text through from William Hill offering a free £25 bet when you place a £25 bet. Quickly checked the Melbourne weather forecast and it looks like weather is at the very least going to be changeable come Sat/Sun. That could be a perfect storm for Jenson at 22/1!
£25 on Merc to win at evens and the free £25 on Jenson brings in £550(!).
Tempting!

Bit confused as to why Ericsson's odds are better than Kobayashi's on William Hill. Ericsson is 500/1 while Koba is 1000/1 to win.
But realistically, I'm really tempted to put a fiver on JB, Massa or Kimi.
Posted 12 March 2014 - 17:20
I have gone for a tenner each way for the first GP on Hulkenburg, Perez, Massa, Bottas and Rosberg - if none of them come in i'll be darn.
I'm surprised how good the odds still are for Rosberg, so a sizeable each way bet for the championship will be the way to go I think.

My friend told me today that he's put two bets on.
£100 for Bottas WDC and £25 for Dual RBR DNFs at the 1st race.
my opinion? ..its pretty stupid and he might as well set fire to his money, at least it'll look pretty and keep him warm for 10 secs
Posted 12 March 2014 - 23:52
Only bets that tempted me so far were Button when he was 20/1 (only 14/1 now) for a win because he's pretty handy around Melbourne and surely being in a top team with a Merc engine is going to mean something in this race at least. And Alonso 8/1 for the championship because the guy is just a machine when it comes to amassing points and if Ferrari get it right with the Merc teams taking points off each other plus a weak Red Bull then he's got to be worth a shout.
Posted 14 March 2014 - 13:19
Just checked Bwin.com
Ricciardo WDC 67/1
Tempting
Posted 14 March 2014 - 13:28
Absolutely worth an each way bet, especially as Red Bull are looking surprisingly close. Just placed one myself.
Posted 14 March 2014 - 15:06
Just had a £20 flutter on William Hill...
Riccardio on 50/1 to win WDC, 50/1, £2.50 each way
No drivers to complete the race, 33/1, £1
Vettel to win the race, 11/1, £2
Bianchi to finish in the top 10, 6/1, £5
Button to finish on the podium, 11/4, £5
Accumulator on all the above bar no drivers to finish, £3 would net me £1160!

I see absolutely no chance for the bolded one to happen. Besides Renault reliability is way better than expected. Just look at FP1 and FP2.
Posted 14 March 2014 - 15:17
To be honest, neither do I. However, if it did, I'll be £34 richer so I won't moan too much! Kinda worth it for a £1 stake.
Posted 16 March 2014 - 21:54
So, with the RB10 of Riccardio being classed as DSQ, and Button now being P3, will William Hill cough up on my bet of Jenson being on the podium?

No they won't as they'll have already paid out on Ricciardo 2nd place.
It's annoying, as I had JB each way...
But my Hamilton pole bet and Seb DNF bet came in
Posted 16 March 2014 - 23:27
Got my Merc win and £50 return - wasted the £25 free bet on arsenal winning with a Giroud goal.
Posted 17 March 2014 - 01:41
I played for comical pennies on paddypower.
£1 Rosberg to win 5.5 (WIN) £5.50
10p Magnusson on podium 40.0 (WIN) £4
And had Bottas not gone all pear, I also had an 88-1 on Bottas / Magnusson podium which I am sure would have happened.
Lost a double merc podium at 5-1.

I had Rosberg and Hamilton for the win so I came out on top, Wonder what Ricciardo would have been paying for a podium after winter testing?
If the merc stays this good for a while, then it might be similar to the end of last year where there is no value in betting on the races

I'm taking Vettel and Ricciardo for fastest laps @ 6 and 8 on Betfair.
Really happy with these for a variety of reasons:
- Vettel secured the fastest lap in Spain
- Mercedes have almost certainly been turning down the power in the last part of the race. This has happened everywhere and I suspect it is part of an agreement internally. They're are many reasons to think this including the fuel usage graphics, which showed Rosberg was below target on the laps he was closing down Hamilton. Mercedes have such an advantage that they can afford to cruise nearer the end and have done. The gaps have often stayed static around 20-25 seconds when they had over 2 seconds a lap when they needed to.
- Monaco should really suit the Red Bull (as reported by Vettel who suggested they could challenge Mercedes for the win there) - it's a traction and mechanical grip track and the Red Bull looks the class of the field in that respect. Mercedes will be stronger on the straights but these are minimal and Renault are bringing further upgrades. A mixture of things mean Red Bull should only be 2-4 tenths behind a lap.
- Mercedes want to win the constructors championship and racing hard around Monaco is risky. They'll likely call the battle off between their two drivers and get them to take it cautiously once they have the 43 points secured.
- Vettel really loves records and has recorded a lot of fastest laps in his career - he's very famous for it.
I'm hoping for some more great value over the coming week.

Depending on the weather Perez @ 2.3 on Bwin to beat Hulk in the race looks great value.
Perez beat Hulk in Spain and went better than JB last year in Monaco. Hulk has never stood out there and I rate their chances more like 50/50. My only concern is that Nico has looked stronger in the rain so will wait to see the weather forecast for the weekend before considering any bets.
It's also interesting that Bwin have put Massa at favourite for the Williams duel. You can get Bottas at 2.02 for the race - I'm considering this too.

Good day at the office. Bet against Perez and D Ricc to score points whilst they were running in the points, bet on the Massa and Bottas at the start of the race.

All going for the cash out value after a few laps. Hoping for a tangle at the first corner… it is Brazil..
Sainz 5 EW at 500/1
Perez 5 EW at 250/1
Alonso 5 EW at 300/1
And a WhatsOdds of:
Win
Single: Sainz, Hartley, Hulkenburg all not to classify & Verstappen to finish on Podium @ 40/1, worth a flutter.

Vettel wins (4.0 in China) and WDC (over 5.0 before season) had good odds until China qualifying happened. Now his WDC odds are tied with Hamilton. Mercedes had been winning for so long it was perhaps hard to accept this new reality.
