Will get a bigger crowd at the track - it can be oppressively hot to be hanging around outside in Bahrain in daylight hours.

Isn't Bahrain oppresive whether the sun is shining or not?Would be good, lets hope so.

And I thought we already had one of these desert night races which no-one goes too...

Plus it would look a lot better for the race organisers on tv if we can't see the fact that there is no one there watching it...

All F1 seasons should open in Australia and close in Brazil.
Fully agree. I know no F1 fan that wants to see Bahrain, or borerain as we all call it round 1. The track should not even be on the calendar full stop in my opinion

Really? I'm sure some fans will argue the F1 season should start in Brazil and end in Australia. And they have.
To me it makes minimal difference. Bahrain won't be running out of money any time soon, so we'll have to put up with it being on the calendar regardless.

Or vice-versa. =D

We've had that in 1994 f.e. Does it really matter? If yes, why?No! They should open in Brazil and close in Australia!

Don't really see why they want a night race really, Bahrain's already in a decent time zone. Moving it a few hours later seems a bit meh.
More money than sense and friends with Bernie, its surprising to have taken so long to be considered.

The check probably only got bigger this year. The Bahrain Gov has been chasing the opener slot for a long time and now they must feel the noise is suficiently down for another try.More money than sense and friends with Bernie, its surprising to have taken so long to be considered.

Oh they can plant a few more trees to keep their green credentials stamped.

It's probably so the TV commentators don't have to claim the visible columns of smoke are oil works, not protest fires.

Yeah, I also noticed that. What was that? I was thinking that there seems to be an accident and these guys are racing nearby. After that got caught up in the action and completely forgot about it, until I read this post. It's probably so the TV commentators don't have to claim the visible columns of smoke are oil works, not protest fires.

The Bahrain circuit layout is actually very good IMO, and generally provides plenty of overtaking opportunities.Fully agree. I know no F1 fan that wants to see Bahrain, or borerain as we all call it round 1. The track should not even be on the calendar full stop in my opinion
The only problem with the circuit is where it's located.

All F1 seasons should open in Australia and close in Brazil.
I actually preferred Suzuka as the final round for the season, and Interlagos as a follow-up after Melbourne.

Two night races in a season will lose its novelty, particularly when there were talks about another Eastern country (Thailand?) holding a night street race too.
We have had 2 night races for a while now. For me they lost any novelty value after the first one.

No! They should open in Brazil and close in Australia!
I am of the same opinion - those were the days, when, like in the late 70s/early 80s, the season started with a double opener in Argentina and Brazil in the first weeks of January - in scorching heat there while we had winter in America and Europe.
Season closing in Australia sounds great, too, who will forget Lauda's last race in 1985 or the thriller in 1986 with Nigel going for it.....
Bahrain as a night race is great, but somewhere in between. It would be a mistake to give it such a prominent position, considering the political problems surrounding the race. What is Bernie thinking?

All F1 seasons should open in Australia and close in Brazil.
And they should award double points here to make them even more exciting.

Forecasting more protests, the plans are for the lights to be powered by low-emission corpse furnaces.

You forgot light pollution in your lament, but I thought that you would know that F1 is like wéiqí; you never know what's coming next and from which direction. BTW, for the record, I think Bahrain is fine. We have bigger problems to worry about than giving them moral lectures, especially when we could use a good one at home as well for our own benefit. So what about all that **** about being energy efficient, cost cutting meassures, environmental friendly, etc etc etc?? No! They should open in Brazil and close in Australia!
Indeed and hold the final race at Adelaide!
I can't see any logic to holding the race in floodlights, its already on at a decent time in Europe and in daytime in Bahrain but money talks. Instead of having a great event packed full of enthusiastic Australians we'll start the year off in an empty desert.

I think its good.
It takes the pressure off Melbourne to become a night race (which will never happen), if there are already a few on the calendar.
#46

I'm not feeling it really. Singapore as a night race, through a city, with skyscrapers and roads and all the noise and chaos which goes with it versus an open ground circuit which nobody attends because of fear that someone will throw a petrol bomb.
I really don't see what the 'night' part brings.
#47
Posted 29 November 2013 - 13:52
Well, darkness hides a multitude of things. Or, in the case of Bahrain, err, not, as in the acres of empty grandstands won't look so obvious.

Have the only race in the desert. Make it a night race so nobody can see you're racing in the desert.
#49
Posted 29 November 2013 - 14:15
it is a good idea for a night race but what about for tv coverage (in the uk) if bbc dont pick it live then that could mean 10.30pm highlights and even worse if it becomes the season opener from a tv point of view.

Interesting for tyre temperatures.
