Just because I'm a nerd and can't sleep right now...
We are now at the end of this era, and the engines have been frozen for six and a half years. Supposedly fairly big improvements have been made through "reliability" upgrades and improved fuel and lubricants. However, it feels like the engines have been said to have 750 horsepower this whole time. Some power must have been lost when they introduced the 19k rev limit in 2007 and later lowered it to 18k in 2009, but surely some power must have been gained as well through the upgrades. Does anyone have any proper numbers, or at least some qualified speculation to offer?
Looking back at the the 2.4 liter V8 era, how much power has been gained through "reliability" upgrades and other improvements?

it hasn't changed much, it probably dipped from 750 to 735 with the rev limit changes and they clawed it back to 750 with reliability upgrades but I doubt power changed much. Delivery probably got better

Always intrigued me too. I´d expect the 2006 engines still coming on top on raw power by a small margin. Some peaked 3K higher than now, surely that´s a lot to recover...

We have some "official" numbers here, but they seem somewhat optimistic? http://www.ausmotive...950-2009-01.jpg

When giving this figure, one would have to include the two Renault concessions to increase their power...so I'd expect to see them to gain disproportionately in those two cases.
