hell no, fewer viewers = even more commercials on RTL >_<diResta to Ferrari
Magnussen to FI
Koba to FI
JEV to replace Rosberg
Costa + Sainz to TR
Kimi + Ric to RBR
Kubica to Lotus
retire Hulk, Sutil, Rosberg, Vettel
(would not be fair to the drivers, but maybe watching F! in Germanies free TV could be bearable again....)
Which driver would you like to see get a crack or another chance in a top seat?

If you can get it, Austria's ORF-1 shows F1 without any adverts.

Oh well, my point still stands. Don't see what Bianchi, Frijns, Ricciardo, Vergne and so on have to do with that ;P

Oh, I thought you were reacting to Alonso being mentioned. The thread title and OP refer to drivers getting "a (first) crack or another chance" so I think they are covered.

Koba, Ricciardo, Hulk, Bottas, Bianchi. In that order.
Same guys but different order for me.
Koba, Hulk, Ricciardo, Bottas (after another year of experience), Bianchi (after another year of experience).

Heidfeld. I think he could have mounted a Webber 2010 title challenge if he was in a top car. Even in one of his poor seasons, 2008, he was only 15 points off Kubica.
Agree. Nick definitely deserves a chance in a top car.
By the way, I don't want to start another Kubica-Heidfeld discussion, but the picture is maybe a little bit wrong. Considering only the races when both finished, the difference is bigger: 31 points.
Heidfeld had 3 podium finishes. 2 of it happened at the same time when Kubica got 2 DNF's. This enabled Heidfeld to gain 16 points in only two races, while his TM got zero. Usually Nick was beaten by Robert or both were close to each other.

No, I just can´t stand watching F1 in German TV any more. The reporting is a disgrace for a serious F1 fan, who is not just a fanboy of a driver. I simply do not want to know what Vettel had for breakfast and when it came out again.. I have no interest in the hairdresser of Britney..... Even within the German drivers RTL fails to find any kind of balance.
I am tired of Hamilton changing from mentaly unstable to awqesome silver arrow driver. I have no more interest in Kimi being shown as lazy and Alonso as the evil overlord. I started watching F1 in the 80ies long before MSC came to F1, when German drivers where people like Danner, Schneider or Bellof (who was awesome btw.). The reporting was way less, but in the race you got some information, learned about the other drivers and where not only kept informed of Danner being lapped for the 4th time. But if I am honest British or Spanish TV are not better today. Now if you think of the BBC´s reporting in the 80ioes, this is just sad.
So going back the driver. I really would like Hulk in the second Ferrari.

In 1986 and 1987, I watched the BBC news to find out qualifying results for Grands Prix. They would tell you who got pole position, and they would tell you where Mansell qualified. The would only mention Piquet if Mansell outqualified him, so you could infer from Piquet not being mentioned that he had qualified ahead of Mansell.

Absolutely agree with this, probably most underrated F1 driver of recent 10-15 seasons.

Giorgio Pantano. The man that even Senna feared in karts.
Stefano Modena. Talent of a God, would have fared very good with a strict person next to him like Ron Dennis.
Chris Amon. The man with a talent that was only outshone by his bad luck. As Andretti once said: 'If Chris became an undertaker, people would stop dying.'
Mark Donohue. If that man would have signed a good F1 contract in 1970 or so...

Quite. Di Resta is the bain of F1 coverage here; when the beeb aren't heralding his unmatched genious he's blowing his own trumpet like mad. To hear him you'd think he was the greatest driver in history and was perfoming uber miracles every week despite having the worst car on the grid, worst luck on the grid, and team who loathe him. That can be said also about british broadcasters where is every 3rd minute a mention about DiResta... More than champions Jenson and Lewis...

To be fair I wholly sympathise, but rest assured it's no better here. British TV take it 100% for granted that it's viewers will automatically worship anyone representing blighty; it is beyond their comprehension that for whatever reason you might not want to sniff Bradley Wiggins y-fronts. Likewise with tennis, there might be a brilliant 5 set match going on between say the 8th and 12th seeds only for coverage to be dropped so that we can all join Andy Murray shopping for socks or listen to an old interview with his his mum's uncle's next door neighbour's hairdresser's mate's gardener, who once played swingball with Andy when they were 6 years old. All of which only serves to put me off British competitors, as I know any success will be followed by similar levels of sycophancy. No, I just can´t stand watching F1 in German TV any more. As for the OP's question; Heidfeld could/should have won races, while Hulkenberg has done enough to deserve a shot. Kubica, obviously is missed, as he would surely have a top seat by now.

you're exaggerating... also you have Sport 1 where I think they make a great commentary for practice about all drivers... and even RTL isn't so bad... well I guess some people are more sensitive about that stuff than others... but really this is something that's not worth to get my blood boiling about. What would get my blood to boil is if F1 would vanish from Free-TV in it's current shape...

It just gets to me that F1 media reporting is more and more turning into the football WC - us against them. Back in the days there was much more genuine respect between the fans of different drivers. And I think the media is to blame for that. Lately I prefer to watch and follow MotoGP, there is simply more general respect towards the drivers. I prefer this "group of Aliens" approach over the mine is better than yours style in F1.
But we are getting too off-topic. Honestly I believe Hülkenberg, Sutil, Bianchi, diResta, Vergne and Ric all could do good in a better car. It is just that 2 good seats are blocked by drivers that no longer deserve them (Webber and Massa).

During my vacation I had to watch Silverstone and Nürburgring on RTL, as I had no other broadcaster at hand in Italy. It was awful! Here in Austria I watch the Austrian broadcaster ORF, which isn´t bad (they have Alex Wurz as co-commentator) or Sky with Marc Surer, who is really good.
RTL came to F1 just when Schumacher arrived. F1-fans like us have much more knowledge, than RTL has or shows. But maybe it has to be so, because they make programm for people, who only watch F1 every two weeks...
