This is from the years before Indy car racing became a joke totally controlled by bucks-up owners.

That's a fantastic story and what used to make racing, particularly Indy cars, so interesting.

I recall this very well. It also added immensely to my already negative feelings towards/about Tony Stewart and his hangers on/supporters/thugs. Then some in the racing media raked Guthrie over the coals, ranting about "rich guys" beating "real talent" while giving him no credit at all for beating their charge.

 

Disgusting. Sickening. Typical.

Sad even, reminds me of a line from one of The Great Bob's songs, "...Money doesn't talk, it swears".
