The Sun got his age wrong though, he's not 70, he was only 68
It's a great shame, I was watching his dirt-racing videos on YouTube some time ago.

Dreadful dreadful news. What an appaling start to the year. Rest peacefully John, a proud member of that little club that saw his offspring win a WDC. His personality will be missed, thoughts are with Jenson and the family.

He came across as a great character and I'm sure he packed more in to 68 years than a lot of people. Devastating for Jenson, Jessica etc.

I only know him from supporting J.B in the paddock if I am honest,. JB comes across as a nice enough guy, so yeah pretty sad to lose his Dad when he was only 68. All the best.

Rest in peace John. Had pleasure of chatting to him in the paddock at Brands Hatch whilst we stood next to each other watching a BTCC race a few years ago. Top man and a pleasure to talk to.
Condolences to Jenson and family.

What a terrible loss. If there'd been a non-racing driver "Man of the Year" prize for the 2009 season, John Button would've won it.

Very sad news. I met him in Monza years ago - he was at the merchandise stalls and I joked that he was looking for stuff to sell on ebay. Then I met him again at Spa at the bar in the F1 village two years ago and we chatted for a while and he signed an autograph for me. Such a lovely, friendly man.

Just heard the very sad news about Jenson's dad. Bless you John, everyone in the Formula 1 industry will miss you and your infectious attitude to racing and life. My thoughts are with Jenson and his sisters Tanya, Samantha and Natasha, as well as John's grandchildren. I always got the impression that not only was he Jenson's dad, but he was Formula 1's favourite dad as well. If it is a small crumb of comfort for Jenson and the British Formula 1 industry it is at least John got to see his brilliant son achieve their dream of a world championship in that magical season of 2009, as well as other cherished moments such as Jenson's first win in Hungary 2006 or that astonishing comeback drive in Canada 2011, possibly two of the greatest performances in modern day Formula 1. Let's not forget, John introduced Jenson to competitive racing when he bought Jenson his first kart aged just 8 which set Jenson literally on the road in his adult life to world championship glory, and all the while John was always there in the dark days for Jenson, such as the difficult seasons of 2001/2002, 2007/2008 or the contract difficulties of 2005 when a lesser driver would of sunk without trace; but no, John kept Jenson focused, told him don't give up, motor sport is a cyclical activity and one day your day will come - as it did in 2009. And all the while John remained this gregarious, big hearted giant of a man. If its any consolation, at least John passed on to Jenson his easy going, amiable character combined when a determined, steely mental edge that doesn't crumble under pressure - witness Jenson's stupendous comeback drive in Brazil 2009 that fulfilled his world championship destiny. Rest in peace John, you were a wonderful man with a big heart whose strength and determination you passed onto Jenson and gave Formula 1 and British motor sport one of its greatest drivers. Not many dads in motor sport could say "My son? Formula 1 world champion" but John Button could. Jenson, my thoughts are with you in this difficult time, but keep strong, and this new season I'm sure, just like always, you will John proud as he looks down on us with big beaming smile. Bless you John, and thank for your truly wonderful son and all the memories he has given us over the years.
