Camlex engines - the final verdict. Eli Solomon, (author of "Snakes and Devils" - the illustrated history of the original, non-F1 Singapore GP and publisher of REWIND , a Singapore-based two-monthly magazine) met with Angus Lamont (close friend of John Macdonald) and confirmed that there were 3 Camlex engines built . They were 1600cc twin cam, 2 valve, fuel injected engines based on Hart 416 alloy blocks. So, we now know that the Camlex was a Ford derivative. However, it did have an FVA crank, Vegantune bits, enlarged exhaust ports... Eli has published more on the Camlex in REWIND issue 026 pp76-77.
Eli knows my mate, Neville McKay, well. Nev has two of Johnnie Mac's Brabhams, including the car that won the Macau & Japan Grands Prix. His wife has been battling advanced cancer for 4 years and Nev really needs to sell his cars to pay for the cutting edge treatment that he is buying for her. If any of you readers know ANYONE who wants to buy a significant historic racing car I would be only too pleased to connect them with Nev.
