Surely Hill is driving a Cooper, not Lotus?
Can anybody identify #8, MY 400?
Owner, circumstances?

Tommy Sopwith always liked to have his cars with a 400 reg no, EGD400, vcd400, from memory on Jags.
NGH is in an Equipe Endeavour car, as was often the case in later years

I see your point Rupert. The caption, and the Racingsportscar website, both have Hill in a Lotus. But that looks like a Cooper to me; aren't those Lotus XIs further behind?
I've had a quick dig around and I can't find reference to NGH driving Cooper sports cars in this country, but this photo seems to prove otherwise. Maybe the relevant Autosport will clear things up; I believe the meeting took place on May 20th 1956.

I have a very poor picture of a couple of Lotus XI's going through Bottom Bend, with a caption that says "G. Hill driving a Lotus XI through Bottom Bend", and it is dated 20/5/56. I can't read the race numbers.

The result in Autosport for the Sports Cars under 1200cc has G. Hill (Cooper) in third place. First and second were C Allison and A. Stacey both in Lotus cars and Ray Thackwell was fourth in a Cooper.
From the report. Graham Hill, driving an unfamiliar car sensibly, was third in Equipe Endeavour's Cooper.

O/T, but in the photo, #17 (I think) Lotus XI POY780 would be Jack Richards, #14 (I think) would be Keith Hall in Lotus XI, and #15 (I think) would be Robbie MacKenzie-Low in Elva Mk I. Is that right?

My guess is that the programme may show Hill entered in a Lotus (hence the caption and the RSC website 'errors'), but that Tommy Sopwith switched him for some reason to one of the EE Coopers. Perhaps Graham's XI had problems in practice. In May 1956 would Colin Chapman have asked/told Graham to drive only Lotus sports cars, never Coopers?

My prog has been marked to shown Hill as a change of driver from Parnell who is the printed driver.

There is also a photo in the report of Hill in the car, but it is largely obscured by Gibson's Connaught in the foreground, the caption erroneously describing it as a 1500cc Cooper. Hill also finished 6th in the final combined sports and racing car handicap.

I think those results are just being updated Rupert. The 1.2 Sports Car race read Lotus Eleven yesterday!

I didn't realise TNF had such power and influence.
A complete list of runners and riders would be a fine thing.

Hi
Thank you very much for joining this great Foto of Graham Hill. Yes, this is definitely a Cooper. And it is the only raceweekend, where Graham drove this car. Two days later at Crystal Palace he drove the Lotus Eleven and a Lotus Mk IX.
I don't know the Story behind, but in those days it was very common to drive an usual race-car for one race-Weekend. For example: Next year Graham drove the Willment and a Tojeiro-Jaguar respectively. Or 1962: When he was works-Driver for BRM he drove the Lotus 18/21-Climax for Rob Walker at Mallory Park (june 11).
