Can you describe your problem more fully please, because there's nothing about your account which shows a restriction except for Paddock Club which you must apply for.

I've had another problem for a couple of weeks here on the Forum that seems to relate to advertising.

A mate of mine suggested I simply clear my browsing history, cache etc.

So I've done that and the problem I was trying to fix, (which I posted in the Malware thread), seems to be much better.

First thing I did was come to the Forum to test it and logged in.

Logged in fine, but still with advertisements.

So I have to be constantly logged into Autosport for the Forum to recognise my ad' free subscription, is that right ?

When you log into the main site you should see a little box just below your login details which says 'remember me'. I think the default setting for that is off/unticked. So make sure that it's ticked before you press submit, otherwise it will just set a session cookie which I think expires after 24 hours (or maybe less). Similarly, there's one on the BB login page. Again, you should make sure it's ticked if you don't want the palaver of having to log in every time. The cookies will only apply to the device you're using, though - so if you try to log in from elsewhere it won't remember you.

Yeah for sure mate I understand all that.

I usually do stay logged in.

Some other places I visit as soon as I log onto the Forum all is good though.

I just thought it was strange to be logged in, but sort of not logged in if you know what I mean.

No drama at all as it doesn't worry me, I probably shouldn't have bothered any one.

Thanks for the reply   ;)

This problem is happening to me again. Everything has been fine for about six weeks or so but in the last week or two it has occasionally been automatically logging me out when I'm on Autosport and also doesn't recognise my saved password for the forum.

Website won't keep me logged in for more than a few hours.  This started when I had to switch to the classic.autosport.com server to avoid the new default (which I loathe) - *never* a problem before, now a constant issue.  (Latest Firefox on Windows 8.1, if it matters.)

Then they ought to remove the "auto-login" checkbox from the classic site.  Stop mocking your subscribers!

We're going to be putting a totally revamped login system in place soon (hopefully in the next week or two, but these things are a bit unpredictable).

I'll stick a post in the forums once this has happened. If that hasn't solved these problems then we'll have to take another look...

In the interests of keeping this topic above the fold I will point out that one problem (auto-login doesn't work on Classic site) persists.

I do this every day, once, yes it's a pain but the more you harp on about it, the quicker the demise of Classic Autosport will be upon us. I know which alternative I prefer.

We're trying to get to the bottom of this bug, but it's proving rather difficult. The main site and the classic site share a login, so this shouldn't be happening!

To clarify, can you guys confirm that the situation where this is happening is as follows:

- You are only using classic.autosport.com and my.autosport.com rather than www.autosport.com

- You are logging in on the top right of the homepage (or any other page on classic.autosport.com) and ticking the auto-login box. You are being remembered for the rest of the day.

- The next day, you have been logged out and need to log in again.

Assuming that all of this is right, I've got a few questions which should help us hunt down the problem (as we're struggling to hunt down the bugs here):

- Is this happening to anyone who uses a combination of the new site and the classic site?

- Are you being logged out after 24 hours or first thing the next day (UK time)?

- If you visit the forums first, is the problem still happening (ie. are you seeing ads on the forums before being asked to log in)?

- If you make one visit to www.autosport.com before doing anything else, is it still happening?

Thanks for the response Grayson, much appreciated.

I remain logged in to the new site always, no intervention by me required. I just stay logged in.

Yes.
- The next day, you have been logged out and need to log in again.

Yes, exactly this.

Assuming that all of this is right, I've got a few questions which should help us hunt down the problem (as we're struggling to hunt down the bugs here):

- Is this happening to anyone who uses a combination of the new site and the classic site?

It is, as explained above. Since the minor problems of the early days it has become a one time log in and fully automatic.
- Are you being logged out after 24 hours or first thing the next day (UK time)?

Cant answer this. Just know that whether I arrive on the classic site either via my desk top link or from the new autosport, I have to log in. This happens every day, I generally log in anytime between 9 and 11 in the mornings, undoubtedly there are occasions that the 24 hr period has not been reached and I still have to log in.
- If you visit the forums first, is the problem still happening (ie. are you seeing ads on the forums before being asked to log in)?

Yes.
- If you make one visit to www.autosport.com before doing anything else, is it still happening?

Yes, as explained above.

I'm feeling all warm and comfortable here, living in hope of a reprieve for Classic and MyAutosport.   Yes please.

Grayson, one thing that may be important. During the course of the Olympic games, I was often on here during the middle of the night as we had a thread running in PC. I remember being logged out on one occasion whilst browsing the thread. It would not have been later than 04.00

Hi Grayson, another thing that may be important. The problem is also machine specific. By that I mean, irrespective of whether I have logged on to classic with either my pc or tablet, I will still have to log on with the other when I use that machine.

I was logged out at 2.00 this morning and logged back on as normal. Retired at 3.00 after tennis, opened the link at 12.50pm and still logged on. From that, I can only assume that the daily log out happens at 2.00am.

I keep being logged out frequently too, on the new site.

Funnily enough I still use the (unsupported?) Android app, as the calendars/results are way easier to access, and never get logged out of that.

Happens for me precisely at midnight UTC (8 PM Eastern Daylight Time).  "Precisely" here means between 15 seconds before, and 3 seconds after, midnight.

Always on a Friday. Some bright spark has changed something today, I'm having to log in to classic autosport every visit today. I'd rather it were left alone than made worse.

Nearly a month since the last post on this topic with no change in the problem.  Time to post again to keep the thread on the first page.

Anyone know who I should contact? Massively frustrating...

I have an Autosport + Subscription (username Rinehart) but for the past 2 or so months I've not been able to Sign in - clicking the forgot password sends me on a fruitless loop where the successfully reset password... isn't recognised... Have now reported this to the black hole at contact us several times but received no response. Nicola Reigate at Autosport Magazine was good enough to reply, if only to tell me that she couldn't help as she works for the magazine and I should contact the website... so back to square 1. Obviously cancelling the subscription and starting again isn't really an option as I haven't received the service for my direct debit paid subscription and so that needs to be redressed... If I'm breaking rules in publicising my issue on here, sorry mods, but you should realise I've exhausted all other options bar a social-shaming media campaign!  All I want is my issue placed under the nose of someone who can do something about it. Pronto. Thanks in advance...

Hi Rinehart,

Hopefully I can help - I'm not sure why your messages didn't end up in my inbox but you can contact me directly at simon.grayson@haymarket.com

I've manually reset your password and had the system send it to you (you can reset it again once you get into the account). If this isn't being recognised, can you let me know the URL of the page on which you're entering your details and whether you're seeing any sort of error message?

PM Simon Grayson directly Rinehart. I think that this thread is only looked at once in a blue moon. Generally, problems such as yours have been dealt with very quickly from past experience.
Edit.
Sorry Simon, only saw your post after posting.

And here we are over 6 month later - not only is the problem not corrected, it's gotten somewhat worse.

Classic site still logs me out every night at midnight UTC.  But now Firefox warns that the login box at upper right is insecure (http not https).  If I click on the login link at upper left I get a screen asking if I really want to log *out*.  Canceling sends me to the mundane (not classic) site.  When I return to classic I find I am now logged in.

Exactly the same happening with me using Firefox. I also have an advert for an Autosport subscription at the top of every page. This has been happening for me, all this week.

I'll take a look into this.

The Classic site is unsupported - we originally planned to switch it off within a few months of the new site being launched but we're trying to keep it running in parallel for as long as possible for the long-time subscribers who have asked us to.

If there's a security issue, that's another matter and something which we do need to look at!

Can you please tell me how long the cookie should last when I log in?

I'm considering whether I want to renew my subscription. I view it on my desktop, laptop, phone and at work. Sometimes in different browsers. It seems I'm typically reading most articles not logged in because of the life of the cookie.

Which means there's not much point in subscribing. Can you consider extending it please?
