I'm very interested to find out which TVR JP (Jim?) Hacking was racing, it is just possible it was the first backbone Grantura style chassis however it may be an earlier Austin A40 based chassis car possibly with an RGS based body (as seen at Barbon Hillclimb in May 1955 - if anyone has Barbon programmes from this time please let me know). The first 2 prototypes of the Grantura style chassis were constructed some time in late 1955.
Colin Escott was in the same race at Aintree in a Lester MG but retired after one lap. Traugott? Was also in another Lester MG. I understand Naylor's Lotus Connaught was the Ex John Coombs Lotus VIII. Naylor's lap speed is quite high at 74 mph and whilst he won easily, I would be surprised if Hacking, coming 2nd was in the earlier chassis TVR (although it is possible).
I like find out more about JP Hacking, he also raced a MGTF and later took part in a relay race at MGCC Silverstone in May 1958 with future TVR racer Tommy Entwistle. As said above he also raced an Elva Courier.
Thanks
Rob

Looks as though John Thurner's Mk1 has an early MGA engine.
JP Hacking - 1467cc capacity is slightly unusual is this a MG XPEG engine. The red could help narrow the car down,
its not conclusive but the first 'backbone' chassis car was supposed to have been red.

I have Robert Barker's (Formula One Register) book on Goodwood can you say if the Aintree book contains the same comprehensive detail particularly for the Member's Meetings.
Now need to find someone selling it!
Thank you

I admit to colour blindness reds/greens, i wonder if that could have been the TVR I drove in Wilmslow back in 1955. The one with the Rochdale C type body.

I'll send you a photo of the potential Rochdale bodied car to see if it rings any bells. If it is same as JP Hacking's car it is before the 'backbone' chassis prototypes.

" A Record of Motor Racing at Aintree" is similar to the F1 Register books. The authors list each race by Number, Entrant/Driver, Car, colour, race position (or retired/dns) and usually grid positions for all races on the GP and Club circuits ,from the openining event in 1950 through to the "end" in 1964 in two volumes .

If there is an A.Senior [Arthur Senior] in an Austin A40, Austin A90 or Riley 1.5 on the entry lists and/or results, that is my late father. He used to do saloon races, especially handicap ones, in his road car. On 1 handicap race, he narrowly won from Jean Bloxham in her Aston Martin...another 20 yards or so, she would have won, she was coming up so fast but he held on to win but she sailed past him just after the flag. Etiquette in those days was after the flag you held position on the slowing down lap.....Jean was going so fast, she had little choice but to go past....in the paddock afterwards, she apologised to him for doing so but given the speed she was going, she had no other choice but to go past him Sorry, I don't have any dates as to when he competed there.

Alan Ensoll, of course, later ran a very nice D Type, the ex Murkett bros TKF9?, which I saw at my first event, at Castle Howard , in September 1959.
