We are planning to go to the Circuit des Remparts at Angouleme this year. Any other TNFers going? I am looking for advice on spectating and convenient camping spots for our motorhome.

I stayed here some years ago:

There were a number of others, also attending the races, staying here. Suitable.

There are many vantage points on the circuit - can get a bit shirty in the grandstands - arguments between those standing and sitting.
Paddock tour pleasant.

Check out rally route - find lunch stop - great gathering of classic cars on the Saturday. Route not publicised in advance, to avoid piggybacking classics who haven't paid their dues.

What is the date this year?

Thanks Rupert, I've had a look at the website for the campsite. It says there is public transport into the event. Did you use this? Which grandstand would you suggest?

The event is 16/17/18 September.

One thing you can rely on with Angouleme, as night follows day, is that it is always the third weekend in September. How great it would be if all other events' dates were cast in stone

I think your choice will be limited, David, as this page from the website shows that three of the four stands are already sold out

No, we didn't use the public transport from the campsite. We parked in Angoulême.

I couldn't recommend a grandstand - I tend to move around - the crowds have got bigger over the years and the character of the event has changed.

Le Rallye International de Charente is well worth catching up with. We have chased it on folding bikes over the years, which works for us.

Overall, if you haven't been, don't miss it! [I expect to be at Firle Hill Climb this year, as last.]

Australian friends who have run at"... Remparts..." speak in awe.

Pity it is on the same day as the VSCCA Wakefield Park race meeting commemorating 40 years since Australia's first All Historic Race meeting of 1976 at Amaroo Park. Not that they would steal competitors from one another........

You should be there, Patrick F: drive up the Hume Highway.

The grandstands sell out by the end of May,but there is a non book able stand down below the Cathedral, with a great view of a couple of the hairpins, plus there is large tv screen to see action on other parts of the track, you need to be there by 9.00 if it's a good day.You can park for free on Avenue Wilson past the clinic towards the Cathedral, just ignore the Route Barre signs,as long as you don't cause an obstruction you won't have a problem. It is possible to find last minute tickets on www.leboncoin.fr but not until the Friday evening. The route for the rally is published in the local paper on the Friday,Charante Libre. As for camping cars not anywhere near here please.
