The 2nd Gran Premio Shell was open to cars up to 2l, and opposed some Ferrari 500 Mondial to A6GCS Maserati and OSCA MT4. Roy Salvadori was there with the Gilby Cooper-Maserati

and Michael Anthony in a Lotus-Bristol.

Among the A6GCS was chassis 2099, the 300S looking car, driven by Luigi Bellucci (race number #8).

Franco Bordoni #2 drove a new 200S, chassis 2401.

Now is the problem: Giorgio Scarlatti #46 had a car similar to the 200S. An other 200S ? Or a new 150S with a 2l engine ? Or a 300S with a 2l engine ?

It was Scarlatti (not Bellucci) who drove #2066 with race number #8.

According to my notes Belucci drove another A6GCS.

There was never a 300S that raced with a 2-liter engine.

It was indeed Luigi Bellucci in car #8.

In 1955, there was a triangle (dark on a b&w photo) on his helmet.

Scarlatti had no triangle on his helmet.

At the time engine swaps were common, so a 300S with a smaller engine

was perhaps possible.

So the car of Scarlatti was a 200S or a 150S...

Again not correct - Scarlatti`s car was an A6GCS, chassis #2066. The car is now in Argentina.

Sorry no.

Again photo evidence show a 200S or a 150S.

Scarlatti drove a prototype for the 300S. This was an A6GCS-chassis and fitted with a 2-liter inline 6 engine.

The A6GCS was the only race car made by Maserati with LHD. All other 50s sports racing cars (150S, 300S, 450S, Tipo 60/61) were RHD.

The car Scarlatti used was a LHD.

Furthermore: the chassis of the 150S and/or 200S are totally different from Scarlatti`s car in Imola and came out in 2 versions (mady by Fiandri and Fantuzzi).

Thanks for trying to help.

A good photo of the start of the race shows that two Maserati were not A6GCS. Cars #2 and #46. Both RHD.

As written in the beginning, the car Scarlatti drove at Imola, car #46 (RHD) was not  A6GCS #2099 which was driven by Luigi Bellucchi (#8 LHD).

Franco Bordoni was in 200S #2401 (race number #2), Scarlatti was probably in an other 200S or a 150S (Fiandri).

It is usually stated that first race of a 200S was at the Targa Florio in October 1955 and first race of a 150S was at the Nürburgring 500 km in August

1955. The photo of the Imola race show different.

T

hanks. The photo solves the issue:

In the race it was Belucci who drove the A6GCS, chassis 2099 with race-no. 8 and Scarlatti a 150S with coachwork by Fantuzzi with race-no.16.

Confusion came because I have a photo of Scarlatti in the A6GCS. Most likely this photo was taken during practice.

Ok, so it was the first time a 150S raced.
