I start with Max Cohen-Olivar, perhaps the best ever Maroccan race driver and only one of a few drivers to compete in Le Mans 20 or more times.

In 1982 he had his best race with 2nd class position in a Lancia. His best overall position was 12th at his last start in 2001.

Depending on your definitions Paul Newman (or PL Newman as stated on his helmet) was interesting  2nd 1979 with Rolf Stommelen and Dick Barbour Porsche 935 K3. Some of Barbour’s fellow IMSA/Le Mans racers had ..er..very interesting backgrounds!

How about Alfonso de Portago? 1954-Maserati A6 GCS retired and 1956 Ferrari 625 LM crashed into the spinning D Types of Paul Frere and Jack Fairman on lap2!  He is probably the only Le Mans racer who competed in the Grand National (twice) as well as representing Spain in the 1956 Winter Olympics in bobsleigh.

…plus  Marie Claude “Beaumont”, who could really hustle Henri Greder’s Corvettes 1971, 1972,1973, 1974. Renault Alpine 1975, with Lela Lombardi  the “Tigress of Turin” 1976 - Kremer Porsche 934 turbo with Bob Wollek and Didier Pironi.

Not only all this but I always thought she was quite “exotic”!

OK I’ll get my coat…..

Sausset is a quadruple amputee: it doesn't seem to handicap him much.

Viviane Elder in 1949 and 1950 - screen actress, aviatrix and sometime racing driver.

I remember hearing Alain de Cadenet's name when I was young and thinking that it was a terribly glamorous-sounding name.
