First trailer is out!

Here’s what you’ve all been waiting for – today, we’re very happy to announce F1™ 2017 to the world! We’re also very happy to tell you that F1 2017, the official videogame of the 2017 FIA FORMULA ONE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP™,  will include the return of classic F1 cars, as well as an even deeper career mode, numerous multiplayer enhancements, and a brand new ‘Championships’ game mode.

“For the first time ever F1 2017 fully integrates the classic experience into the main career mode,” said Lee Mather, Creative Director at Codemasters. “As part of your career you will be invited to race in modern day, invitational events in the different classic F1 cars throughout the season. We’re also adding to the variety in F1 2017 with the inclusion of four alternative circuit layouts, as well as numerous new gameplay types. The classic cars will also be available to play in a range of other game modes, including online multiplayer modes and time trial.”

All sounds good. I loved the classic cars in F1 2013. Alternative circuit layouts sounds good too. Always nice have some variety other than the basic season.

Add in F2 and I'm sold.

This, DIRT 4, Gran Turismo Sport, possibly Project CARS 2 (though I'm not a fan of the original in truth) and a huge update to Assetto Corsa that transforms the console version into something way better, good time to be a racing fan with a games console at the moment.

Shame the F2007 is still a blank car like in every other game it's been released on. Why couldn't they just include a barcode livery on it...

The video reminds me the old opening animation of F1 program in Japan

Watched some gameplay of this on YouTube earlier. It honestly looks exactly the same as the last few years, and the graphics seem pretty poor. I don't know what it is about modern day F1 games they just seem so dull compared to other motorsport racing games on the market.

Here's an interesting article on the issues with F1 licenced gaming: https://www.motorspo...-gaming-920664/

"perhaps the biggest angst among fans, the inability of drivers to switch teams"

Is that even a thing?

I've seen many complaints about Codemasters' games, from lacking options for difficulty, allegedly simplistic driving models, dated graphics, etc. but this one is new to me.

Still, his ideas are fair enough. I personally don't care about watching other people play games, but it's undeniable that many people do. It's an avenue worth investigating.

Few years back I played some Codemasters F1 game careermode. I actually found it silly that for few season I was the one who made team changes, no others.

even the driver who I did replace originally came back when I moved to other team. That was silly and I would cheer if FIFA kind of player swap would be possible.

By The Way, official F1 manager games in past did allow driver, engine and sponsorship swaps.

It'll be about licencing. I think technically this would be the easiest thing in the world to implement because they just use sliders for how competitive each driver is, don't they?

FW18 announced with the already announced FW14B as the two Willams classic cars.

So there will be 3 extra Mclarens (probably MP4/13, 20 and 23) and the Renault R26, but I wish we could get the BGP001.

Nice. The classic mode was the only reason I got F1 2013 and don't have anything past that (rFactor mods are better in some ways).

The FIA could put an small screen on the inside of the Halo and make it flash Red, Yellow, Green so the drivers know when to do what.

Is this the way to advertise a racing game these days? How did racing games turn into elaborate quicktime events! :well:

Codemasters only make garbage arcade games. Just buy Assetto Corsa, and install F1 mod and you'll get a lot better deal for a lot cheaper. No paid yearly updates required.

EDIT: WTF are those engine sounds? They sound like V8 lol.

If you'd actually watched it you would've seen it's a classic car, so yeah V8.

Although I agree AC is a more realistic game, the AI is absolutely abysmal. So as a single player experience there is not a lot of fun to be had with that.

Looks good, but they were so conservative with those classic cars. No ground effect cars, or a Schumi Benetton? Come on.

Looks exactly the same as F1 2016, yet they'll charge full retail price. And again no Martini Williams car, such a shame.

Looking forward to this game!  Actually my 6-year old son is more excited than I am. Can't wait!

FYI:  The T-bar camera driving view is going to be RUINED in F1 2018 with the silly halo!!  It's gonna look SO bad....

I'll be picking it up, xbox one is currently starved for racing games until fall. 2016 was an improvement over it's predecessor, this should be another step in the right direction.

Haven't played any F1 since F1 Challenge 99-02 and I really wanted to try this one out, but releasing the game AFTER the summer break in F1 season rather than just BEFORE seems like a wasted opportunity. By the time game arrives all the hype will be focused on Spa. Seems like a weird decision to me.

Started my career with McLaren at 50% race distance, I can barely get out of Q1 and I need to replace parts after only 2 races. Good times.

Monaco now on my 3rd ICE and MGU-H for the race, I will have to start taking penalties sooner or later. The McLaren handles nice but it cannot keep up with anything on the straights, I couldn't even pass a Sauber in some races despite having a DRS advantage and max engine settings, in fact it drove away from me most of the time lol.

Playing on a half assed wheel setup with no assists, the game has a good feel to it.

For the first time since about 1997, I actually haven't bought the new F1 game on release. I suppose it says a lot about where I am with F1 at the moment. I know it's meant to be pretty good. Thing is, I've never actually played through a full season on F1 2016 yet.

As usual the Codemasters Forum is awash with complaints - usually by the same people who complained for fun in all previous years  :stoned:

I bought the game yesterday, only done the TT's so far to get a feel for the dynamics and get some times on the board. Have to say they've done a great job with updating the handling physics in line with the new cars - Silverstone and Austria are absolutely mega! (its also a shame that some corners such as T3 Spain are now flat and therefore easy). One thing you can now do (or at least I didn't know it was possible before) is to download other peoples set ups - and see what they are/save them. That's bloody great news for me as I had neither the time nor inclination to fart about with set up tinkering for hours on end so I used to just use the preset setups. I'm mostly using "Beasthas" set ups as they seem to suit me. If anyone has any recommendations please share.

I haven't really had any issues so far, most of those complaints seem like bullshit. I use one of TRL Limitless' setups, he's on of the top players on Xbox. He's also got track guide videos on youtube.

Strange steering movements in that video. The hands sort of jitter left to right. Almost like what you used to see with AI cars when they were following a pre determined racing line.

I used that guys setups throughout F1 2016 and now I am using them again in this game. I use the setup in that video as a base and just change the downforce levels from track to track, it works well everywhere.

Tried to get back into F1 2016, did a 50% race, did well, half a lap from home had a tyre blowout.

Reminded me nicely why I didn't bother with it for long tbh.

Yeah anything above 80% wear felt like you were risking a blow out, it caught me out a few times too. Not sure if its the same in this game.

In 2016 it ALWAYS seemed to happen on the last lap. I think I came close to snapping the disc in half.

Having a lot of fun with the game but will wait with trying out career until the main bugs are out.

In the meantime I downloaded an app called RSDash which works really well with F1 2017. It basically is a light telemetry companion that runs on your phone or tablet and shows you all the data from your car plus the lap times from all drivers including personal and overall best sector times (in green and purple). Only got it recently but looks like a great addition.

Working my way through a pretty dire season with Renault in F1 2016 because the autism in me means I can't start on 2017 till I've played through the last one! Looking forward to seeing what it's like although I guess buying it a few weeks (and patches?) down the line probably makes sense anyway.

What are the classics like? I'm looking forward to giving the 1998 McLaren and 2006-7 Renaults, Ferraris and McLarens a spin. There was no F1 game for the 2007/8 seasons so I always feel we kinda missed out there.

With this, Project CARS 2, Forza 7, GT Sport, even WRC7 on the horizon I think my wife is going to divorce me soon.

Tried the '91 McLaren, '92 Williams, '95 Ferrari and '98 McLaren so far, but for too brief a time for each so results are inconclusive. V12 noise is almost spot-on though.

Someone I work with raised a good point.. this type of game would seem to be a no brainer for VR support. Do you folks think it would work? Or is the engine not really suited for VR? I wonder if you'd feel a little sick after a while.
