I did a Google image search but couldn't find anything apart from period adverts for their motorcycle tyres.

Surely somebody on here will know, I'm away from my archive for a while so I have no other sources so good luck with your query.

Not sure they're Avons. I've found some period ads in the Telegraph - the tread pattern on the tyres on the Jaguar is more pronounced than Avon's contemporaneous HM Ribbed tyre. But more importantly that centre groove isn't there on the HM Ribbed. They also had an HM Centre Grip, with a much more complicated central tread pattern.

They are indeed Avons.

Aston Martin used them in 1959. I've found a photo to prove it but can't upload it.

Any chance of posting the pic here?

Looks like Dunlop RR12 to me.

Edit :- Actually, I think RR12s were Goodyear, not Dunlop.

Terry, after checking out my photos, this is the only one of the RR12 Goodyears that were on the back of my Vee [#20].

Unfortunately I was traveling too fast ;) to clearly show the 4 'zig-zag' grooves...similar to those in your photo.

Using the materials at hand, I have looked at the Goodyears and then the Avons from this era, I would tend to suggest that they certainly appear to be the latter, much like those made for the Aston Martin team.

The photo is simply a enlargement with the grain coming through.

But it clearly shows there is no straight central groove...

The photo of Carroll Shelby's Aston Martin DBR4 on the grid at the 1959 British Grand Prix at Aintree, which is posted on Terry's Facebook page (but not that easy to find), clearly shows the tyres with the central groove and zig-zag tread pattern.

https://www.facebook...JaguarArchives/

There is another photo on the internet showing the DBR1 pit fire at Goodwood in 1959 which clearly shows (when enlarged) a spare tyre with the same pattern.

https://www.google.c...497194456967032

One could speculate that the same tyres were used in the victory at Le Mans.

Once again a Fecesbook link which takes one back to the original picture...

Please, don't link Fecesbook, just post the photos here. I'd like to see them.
