Eyy Paul where is my Italian build up thread..? Focus on your work!
Well you ask, you get (not always the case though) and its your lucky day because I have a day off and what else is better to do a build-up thread for this barmy, wacky but very fun forum. ¯\(ツ)/¯
Last time I did a build up thread I looked back at the season so far... and this time is no different! Only joking...
There's only been one race since now and then so lets look back at it in lots of detail
Hamilton equaled Michael Schumacher's pole record with a (insert superlative) lap with Vettel getting a cheeky toe tow from hit teammate to take second. Something we may see again this Saturday. That was it really.
Then 23 hours and 4 minutes and 24.7 seconds later the race began! It was a very clean start...
...nearly and we had 2 different coloured cars having a drag race down the Camel Kemmel straight. The silver one came out on top. Then the usual stuff. Alonso on the radio a lot, Verstappen breaks down, Alonso retires but then OMG.
I mean don't hit your teammate, especially when it's a bright, pink car. It sent this forum in a melt down, for both incidents! Some of the stuff in it is funny. They will have to meet at this weekend's press conference tomorrow.
Thursday, August 31, 1500 hours local time (1300 GMT)
Part 1: Esteban Ocon (Force India), Sergio Perez (Force India), Sebastian Vettel (Ferrari)
Part 2: Romain Grosjean (Haas), Nico Hulkenberg (Renault), Carlos Sainz (Toro Rosso)
Friday, September 1, 1600 hours local time (1400 GMT)
Part 1: Maurizio Arrivabene (Ferrari), Frederic Vasseur (Sauber), Toto Wolff (Mercedes)
Part 2: Robert Fernley (Force India), Gene Haas (Haas), Claire Williams (WIlliams)
But back to the useuless review and up at the pointy end, Vettel was faster but the dirty, annoying, physics of air of these 2017 cars meant that track position is king, in fact scrap that track position if the world. A SC for debris meant that Vettel had one chance but Hamilton was very clever and lifted through the not so very hard Eau Rouge. Meaning Vettel had to get out of the slipstream and put his nose (not his actual nose) into the wind and Hamilton obviously had some kind of Mario mushrooms in his engine and held on to take victory.
No shoey but an Ozzie on the podium, Daniel Ricciardo was there too!
"Do you really think I need a reminder when I watched the Grand Prix, I want to know what happened last year at Monzzza!"
Alright... well it was pretty terrible. Let me put it this way.
I genuinely can't even remember who won. I'm not going to check but I think it was a silver car. (it was Hamilton or Rosberg). Who cares anyway lets just hope that this year is better!
And there's hope because it looks like it will rain on either Saturday or Sunday or maybe both if we're really lucky. I know people don't like seeing wet race s anymore but I do because even if there's a lot of red flags and good, old Charlie waits for the track to dry up even though he's got 21 of the best drivers in the world + Massa (only joking Felipe) he just waits forever! But when the race does get going it's great! https://www.accuweat...-weather/214047
And I'm sure I said this last year, but out of all the races on the calendar this is the one race where I hope it rains because it's sooooooo boring. It's just as bad as Sochi IMO (here comes the hate!).
And it's even worse now because there's so much run-off. ARRGGHHH. The circuit it like this though. Long straight, chicane, curvy straight, chicane, two 90 degree right handers, straight, chicane, straight and then a long right hander where you can go off the circuit if you want and into Narnia and back for all the FIA care about.
Last time I didn't post the Constructors' Championship but here it is as a bonus!
And the drivers standings as well...
This week's rant is about tyres!
Look at this! Everyone has picked the same ones. Pirelli have gone so cautious that it's just outrageous. This 3 tyre thingy rule last year was great but now it's completely pointless. Belgium was good because there was variety but now it's like copy and paste. What is the point. Nobody is going to use the medium tyre because it will be awful. Anyway, I hope the inters and wets will get used instead to cheer me up!
Time to take a look at some of Monza's best moments. I'll be honest there's not too many considering it's been on the F1 calendar since 1950.
Underrated moment is this one, it was just chaos
Back when Monza was a slipstreaming paradise, this was when it was good. Peter Gethin's most famous moment
When McLaren lost their streak and Ferrari took a 1-2
Not an unusual sight to see, a Honda engine blowing up!
I so hope that this is Hamilton and Vettel on Sunday. My goodness this forum would go absolutely crazy.
Hakkinen loses it in the lead
This is from 2011, the reverse happened in 2012 (see top of OP) and as you can see Alonso was much nicer to Vettel the year before
But what makes the Italian Grand Prix so special and unique is the fans who are so passionate. I expect chaos and fireworks if Seb can pull off the win this weekend and maybe some boos for Lewis if he wins.
But if we have a dry Saturday could we get the fastest lap ever in Formula 1 history??? For more TomNokoe has looked into it http://forums.autosp...-in-f1-history/
For me I'm not too bothered about it but it would be nice to see but the rain may spoil it.

All times are local (or CET) so take an hour off if you're in the UK, some more hours off if you're in the Americas and add some hours if you live in Asia or Australasia. If you live in Antarctica, what on earth are you doing there and why are you reading this???
That's it for now, hope it's a cracking race. If it is a borefest, well at least it won't last too long. But fill me with optimism guys!
