So despite the dawn of the Halo, I'm planning to attend next year's GP in Budapest. I know the thread is quite early, but ticket sales opened already and I wanna make sure to buy them with early bird discount. I browsed the existing threads, but two questions remained:

 

- I'll probably go for a grandstand at the last corner, i.e. Question is: Silver 3, Silver 4, or 3 Combo (Friday Gold 1/Saturday Super Gold/Sunday Red Bull)

- Is there really no way around the 30 min. walk from the train station to the track? Seeing that there is free parking for ticket holders, would it even make sense to rent a car to get there?

Usually, the organizers provide free direct bus lines for ticket holders. The two usual lines are between 'Árpád híd' station (Budapest city center) and the track, and also between 'Mogyoród' HÉV (suburban railway) station and the Hungaroring. I think those lines are still the best options because the traffic jam can be horrible around the circuit at sunday morning, but the buses get special treatment from the police.

We got a bus from city centre, it was a very rural route and dropped us down the hill from turn 1, about a ten min walk to the circuit.

Going home we always got a cab, they have a set rate for the grand prix, I think it was about the equivalent of £30, which was fine for us as we had a group of 5 people.

Grandstand wise I wish I'd bought bronze 2 as I think it had the best view, last turn looked this too. GA is not too bad, but don't do gold 4: expensive and only a view of turn 1

Silver 4 tickets last year, very nice view, you can see them coming (from silver 5)

VIP parking in case you rent a car, takes you up to the grandstands and they let you through.

Morning all, newbie here, I have seen the Hungary race 5 times, my only observation regarding the buses are that they can be unbelieveably hot and stuffy (saw someone faint on one the other year), for this reason we always take the train and walk - there is a bar halfway, if you fancy a water/beer break, although it takes a bit longer, have found this to be my preferred journey. Be careful if you get startline tickets, the stewards were useless last year, I missed the start, as they had just allowed anybody/their mates to come in and stand on the steps, totally unacceptable. Other than those points, you'll have a great time!

I am probably going to buy tickets for next years race and I was actually making my decision between the Bronze 2 and Gold 4.

Looking at some videos from YouTube, the Gold 4 seems really good for watching the race start, and I was thinking that it might be a good place to see at least some overtaking. You don't think that is the case?

 

The Bronze 2 is crazy cheap and offers a nice view of several corners, but I was just wondering if I want to sit there because overtaking is most likely be absent in that part of the track.

 

Thoughts, anyone?

Are all of the Gen Admission areas packed? Somehow my gf seems determined that we are gonna come to see Hungarian GP instead of Rally Finland this year so interested. Which stand would you recommend?

If you want to see any on-track action, from my experience I'd say you should only look at G3 and G4 at turn 1, with TVs in front, but obviously thay are crazy expensive. S3 and S6 offer you a nice view of most of the corners in the last sector plus cars entering and exiting the last hairpin look great, but obviously there is little action happening there. Personally I prefer to choose GA tickets as they're much cheaper and you can move around the track freely which is great.

Ok. I have only been to Sochi and Monza before so all info is welcomed. On sochi you could see better from outside of track area than general admission. In monza general admission is ok on some places, but it is sooo fulled so propably you will end up at bad view. Luckily I bought grandstand tickets to those venues.

My gf seems to be siding a bit more on the ga-tickets. Seems like a nice enough compromise since she bothers to come and see f1 with me hah

Only just seen this. The issue i had with turn one gold was that's all you saw, a very limited viewing area. Whereas the rest of the circuit offered much greater views, but as someone else pointed out, you'll probably see minimal overtaking.

I liked the view at bronze 2 over the far end of the circuit, you could see them drive up the straight, kink left then the long right hander before the chicane

I don't know how far it is to the airfield, and presumably you have to go fetch your luggage somewhere? 
I went in 2016 and noticed the outflux of people was quite fast. There is a bit of a walk from the track to the road, but we got a taxi at the back end of the track (we were on the s/f straight on sunday, so we had to walk about 30 minutes) and were back in town about 25 minutes later.

What kind of zoom range do you have? Do you need to get close?

Augurk I have 75-300 on canon 7d. That worked well on Monza and Sochi. Gotta see, my trip started already and can't wait it. Prolly gonna focus more on photography during Friday and Saturday.

That range should suit you in basically most of the general access. Between turns 7 and 10 you can get a bit closer to the track, but there's little overview as there are quite a few trees. Again around turn 12 - 14 there is a good overview and they are going through a slow part of the track which helps in getting the right shots. 

 

If you can manage to peak through somewhere, have a look at turn 6. Especially during practice, qualifying and the support series there were a lot of tyre lock ups and near spins there when I visited. Should give some better action shots. Also the support series try some overtaking there (and it doesn't always end well).

Ok, lets update this a bit. I had a really good time there with my gf.

 

Really good track for general admission, you can see well from so many parts off the track. Only minus here is the lack of screens so it is hard to follow action on other areas of track.

 

I visited the chicane, the few next corners and finally the race from the small hill above the finish straight (do not really recommend, bit too much people I think)

 

 

So, the few minus areas. Like mentioned above lack of screens and/or even loudspeakers. Food, not really good and the prices are really bad for those options. And lastly the transportation. And well connecting to that, queing to head outside from the track, police lost completely control and people acted like aholes and LOTS of pushing and shoving. Even children and women took hit in that, unacceptable.

 

I really can not recommend the fanbus from Budapest. Just sooooo much people and one bus every 30 mins. Take the train to Kerepes or the next stop. From there it is way less people to the fan bus or if you want it is about 2 km easy walk to the track.

The additional approximately 1€ fare is well worth it.

 

Also wow, when did the f1 merchandise get so expensive? No wonder there was still some Caterham stuff for sale when the price for t-shirt is 35€ in "clearance"...

 

All in all really nice experience, might head out there again some day (if so, I will get a grand stand ticket just for the reserved spot on sunday)

I take it that was before you entered the circuit?

The official merchandise (i.e. within the confines of the circuit) don't sell anything other than current team merchandise bar the odd 'legacy' items, which generally translates as Senna and Schumacher.

From my experience of the junk you find before you enter the circuit, they probably aren't still selling old Caterham stuff, but probably are selling their own fakes that they made at the start of the season and are dragging around the European GP's.

This probably needs its own thread though...

No, there was a clearance store next to the stage. So it was inside the track. Did not see anything like it in Sochi or Monza.

I have a question about Hungaroring tickets for the Hungarian GP 2022. I am deciding between General Admission and the Bronze sector (1,2). Which one would you recommend buying? 

And if I buy the Bronze sector tickets, can I go to general access areas too? 

 

I really appreciate any help you can provide.
