Petty going to Chevy with RCR alliance...

RCR?

This will bury them even further back into midfield mediocrity..

Good Luck, Bubba

This Nascar makes no sense till playoffs. They should crown champion a driver with the most wins that would be fair and every race will make sense.

Both Newman and Austin Dillon won races last year. Ty Dillon for Germain Racing, which is essentially an RCR car, came close a couple of times as well and that car was more competitive than its been in years. RCR has had a bit of a down period but they're getting back on the right track.

I'd be way of tying my fortunes to a team saddled with not one, but two nepotism cases.  It's kind of hard to be at your best working for such a team when you know the owner doesn't do his best when picking drivers.

If anything Petty going to an RCR satellite will save them.  Go Bubba!

And Andy Petree seems to have transitioned remarkably well...

What these kinds of deals mean is The King is buying and/or leasing engines and chassis with tech support from RCR.  Basically a customer team.  The Richest Children Racing won't have anything to do with Petty's team.

Wouldn't surprise me if Chevy was involved to be able to get The King as some sort of marketing plan.  As long as we don't have to see The King's kid on TV any more than now I'm good with it.

The Larson and Bubba cars look pretty sharp from a glance thru Jayski's paint scheme gallery, new look for the Hendrick chevys as well.

Field set for the Clash, moved to daytime: 14 pole winners and 3 playoff drivers from last year plus the Danica rule (past Daytona 500 pole winners)

Kurt Busch looks to be confirmed back at SHR shortly

Agreed. The continued delay for the series renewal after early optimism isn't a great sign, and NASCAR may have to embark on another title sponsor within just a couple years which could be tough to explain to potential interests. We'll see if the improving economy has any effect on it and team sponsorships going forward.

The US economy has been solid for the last few years, prior to Monster signing on.  It's the cost and value of the sponsorship that's the issue.  It appears it's not worth what it once was.  I think we'll see the same correction on TV deals too.

Why Honda doesn't jump in Nascar?

when asked this question about 20 years ago they stated that they didn't have compatible vehicles and didn't want to build any.. not their niche..

they probably do have closer sized cars now but do they want to get into an arms race with Toyota, here??

If they did, I'm not sure Ford and Chevy would even try to keep up..

The foreign manufacturers weren't eligible 20 years ago.  It took Nascar changing the rules from domestic manufacturers to manufacturers that domestically produce cars to allow Toyota to enter.  Honda didn't have any rear wheel drive, full sized sedans either.

OK, however many years ago, I remember them being asked in an indycar paddock about joining toyota and having no interest..

remembering how many years is a battle for old folks... apologies..

Chevrolet, Dodge, Ford have forgotten more about building a high performance push-rod engine than Honda could ever learn.

The Toyota is  a U.S. design.

NASCAR banned fuel injection in the fifties and OHC in the sixties.

Well when you figure in the fact that the Bosch Jetronic system was based on the U.S. Bendix system not really, just that the small distances in Europe made reliability less important which the British auto industry emphasized.

Carbs are reliable and easily fixed.

In the modern era they kept it out to keep computers out of the car in addition to the heritage issue.  It's the same reason they ban CF parts.  Not that they can't make them, it's to keep costs down.   By golly they still do make pushrod engines.  The auto museums need something...    A pushrod/OHC normally aspirated with a big displacement will get you the most bang for the buck in the HP department.  To get big HP out of a smaller displacement a great deal of cost and complexity is added.  For example to get 700 hp from an small displacement OHV  you need to dual turbo and supercharge it, multiple valves per cylinder, high performance ECU.  If we're talking HP per weight and size a small displacement induction engine is far and away the best option.  To spin this back to racing related the current F1 engine motor err power unit is a classic example of cost and complexity.  A stellar piece of technology, very impressive.  However in the HP bang for buck department it falls woefully short.  You could get the same HP using big block aspirated engines for far less money.  They'd be 'uge and heavy though.

They are but carb tuning is a dying art and a carb in a street car needs more periodic maintenance than FI.  I started racing with carbs (as well as my first cars...)  but once I started using FI in the race cars I've never looked back.  We have a 67 Mustang that's been in the family for 40 plus years (though it's been passed down to me I still consider it Dad's car).  Numbers matching, low miles, two family owner car but in terms of production it's not that unique compared to some others.  Perfect candidate for a stock appearing resto mod.  One of the mods I'll do will be to put an entry level FI system.  Not because a carb doesn't work but because it's a modern convenience.

One huge advantage of an electronic FI is it does not need to be adjusted for altitude.

Any one who ever crossed the Rockies without working on the carb. knows exactly what I mean.
