Well, I couldn't find a RB14 topic so I created this one.

If this is not permitted, please let me know.

So far we have seen the new car with a temporary livery

What do you expect from this year's car?

Those tiny sidepods, how?
Do they manage to direct the airflow in such a way it is enough

The old Jordan 1996 also had (for the time) tiny cooling. It can be done. ;)

Apparently it's all a crumpled heap because Ricciardo pranged it :)

Thank god there's no verses thread yet, it would've at least filled 15 pages.

Just seen the Red Bull truck on the M1 and it’s still in the black and red livery so I reckon we’re going to see an update at Barcelona

It's the shabby chic, 'distressed' look.

No, they're just blue with a big fat logo on them.  :p

With Ferrari going long wheel base, it could leave certain type of tracks purely Red Bull's domain

The curious thing is Ferrari and Mercedes have gone long wheelbase to maximise the bargeboards, not the floor. With Red Bulls high rake maximising their floor and their short sidepods, they could still be competitive everywhere

I think vague generalizations about long wheelbase = bad at these tracks rarely stand up, but Ferrari have gone quite a new concept with their car, while the Red Bull is a clear evolution.

I'll be curious to see how McLaren approach the issue, as they could be one of Red Bull's key competitors this season

Really? I thought the Ferrari is exactly what they had last year, just with a slightly longer wheelbase. What is so quite new about?
To me the RBR has relatively more revolution than the prancing horse; sidepods, crash structure, barge boards, suspension and stuff a simple guy like me will probably have overlooked. The Merc and the Ferrari seem to be just evolutions of the ‘17 cars.

Have you not seen the side pods? and the floor below the side pods? It really is quite different.

Ferrari has made quite some changes, but I disagree on the idea Ferrari made 'concept' changes while Red Bull is just an 'evolution'. I'd say Red Bull has made more elementary changes compared to Ferrari.

Yes I have seen them. And again, I see detail differences with last year for sure, but still all in line with the exact same concept they ran in 2017. The only teams where there were true concept changes are Sauber and Williams, who both have gone onto an very different path than they were in '17.

Probably the best chassis by September , no point changing for the sake of change.

Agreed. I am not at all saying that evolution is not as good as revolution. I was just saying that the Ferrari didn’t seem to be that different to last years.

Car looks great aerodynamically, hope also the increased reliability and horse powers from Renault will help for a great season :D only curious how the relation between Verstappen and Ricciardo will have it's impact on the season. Ricciardo for the first test drive on Silverstone and Barcelona is remarkable, looks like they want to make him sign a new contract by giving him a priority feeling.. just as they pleased Max in the end of last season with the first car to get the new upgrades after he signed his new contract.

I wouldn't say driving on the first test day is favorable. The chance of experiencing bugs and software glitches are the biggest on day one.

Enrique Scalabroni on Italian motorsport.com (rough google translation):

The Argentine designer, formerly employed by Williams and Ferrari, predicts a very competitive 2018 season for the RB14: "Newey has pushed the Rake trim to the point that the engine's air intake is not affected by the turbulence generated by the Halo".

"I have no doubts: it is the RB14 - Enrique continues - I understand I surprise with my prediction, but Adrian Newey I think he is the best technician who has solved the problem of the Halo 2018 machines. what is the negative impact of the new head protection in the performance of the power unit. The "diadema" creates significant interference on the engine air intake and significantly limits its power ".

"I saw an image of the RB14 during the Silverstone shake down - continues Scalabroni - and I noticed that the dynamic grip of the engine protrudes from the Halo thanks to a more extreme Rake trim.Already last year the Red Bull was the single-seater who could make the most of the beaten set up, generating a lot of downforce with the lower part of the car, but now Adrian Newey has studied how much you need to raise the rear of the car to make sure that the engine airscope is not affected by the 'Halo and can exploit the full available power of the Renault 6-cylinder ".

RB is not the only team with rake

So in order to get max power from the PU, the car must run extreme rake, which can only mean extreme drag. Quite the conundrum...

The teams like them, partly for aero reasons, most because they like the extra advertising space (more accurately, they can put the driver numbers there, opening up other space on the car).

It’s a turbocharged engine with fuel flow limits. If It was a N/A engine that would be a legitimate concern. I give this column the D’oh!! 🤦🏾‍♂️ award.

Screw what the teams want! we got these terrible cars that can’t race each other because it’s what they wanted
