One does go hand in hand with another, doesnt it? As long as the popularity of F1 is still there, as well as a succesfull driver, then that is a recipe for a Grand Prix being held.

Not necessarily. There are far more people who watch live sport on TV than actually attend an event. And F1 is popular in countries that have neither a GP or a driver. Having TV viewers doesn't help the circuit financially, and it's the circuit that will take the biggest hit if their crowd is based only on having a star driver.

For the Dutch version I'd say it is only 3 requirements:

1) You know that Amsterdam is not a Country

2) You do know that the right name for said Country is not Holland

3) You are aware of the fact that marihuana is as illegal here as it is almost anywhere. And whilst it is being condoned, you can still get arrested and prosecuted for it

4) You know Heineken is a terrible beer and there are much better alternatives in said country!

LOL.  :rotfl:  :rotfl:  :rotfl:

Ecclestone was the original all about the money guy.  The difference is Liberty is reinvesting it in the sport instead of extracting the value for personal enrichment.

As for the cannabis thing in the the US it’s fully legal for about four time the number of people that live in Holland, Amsterdam, The Netherlands.   ;)  Hopefully the novelty wears off a bit over there and other Euro countries legalize weed.  The crowds in De Wallen were out of control pre pandemic.

Although Mr. Penske himself will be in Spa for the 6H and not in Miami this weekend.

Four US races would be overkill, though I would happily see IMS replace COTA.

Agreed but I am just hoping for a more attainable (in terms of cost) event so I can bring my #2. My #1 went in 2003 and together all of us have been to many historic races and more at RA.

My #2 has been at IMS 3 times - we did the museum and bus tour while at a soccer tourney(s) a few times. But she has not seen a race there yet.

So?  The President of the FIA meets the owner of the Indy 500, one of the most prestigious races of the year, and one of the most important people in world motor sport.  Why wouldn't he if he is visiting the USA?

The FIA is about all motor sport and motoring worldwide.  It doesn't stand for Formula One Association.

I wish I had known Big Ben was here in Indy. I could have brought some “encouragement” over to help him want to hold a race here in the future.
Missed opportunities. Life’s full of ‘em.

Rumor here in Indy is since that meeting, dad (Roger Penske to the rest of you) is now looking for some 18” Pirelli tires for some testing.
I don’t know if that means anything…
…I’m just saying…
… is all I’m saying…
…it could mean anything…
Hey, I think I saw the Captain in a new Porsche.

I'd love to see Indy back in F1. By all accounts I've ever heard, the fan excperience there for F1 was fantastic, aside from the tire fiasco, which wasn't Indy's fault. Cheap tickets and concessions, and absolutely mammoth crowds. When we went to the 500, everything was great. Amazing place. Incredible experience. And now that the Captain has poured a bunch of money into the facilities, I'm sure it's even better.

I never enjoyed the racing there though. Just didn't like the circuit. But I can see why it would be a great place to be a spectator.

It would be interesting to see how the changes made since F1 last went there would work. I’m sure they’d keep the banked T1 rather than use the MotoGP/Indycar bit inside. But the horrible double hairpin switchback is gone.

They’ve made changes for every major new series, so there’s no guarantee we’d know what the layout would be for a return. I remember when F1 first went there was talk of extending into the T3 infield area.

Either way, I’d like to see a return.

I think there is a golf course in the area they were talking about extending the F1 circuit.

They already moved 3 holes (IIRC) when the road course was built.

I thought the golf course was built after the curcuit went in. I only remember it coming up when they were talking about extending.

No it’s been there for many decades. A quick google points to it being a PGA event in the 1960s.

The golf course had been there since the 60’s, but it was rebuilt into its current form in 1993. It now has four holes in the infield, and 14 out, on the east side of the track.

Of course, if they’d chosen the superior and more popular form of golf, what mere mortals call “Minigolf”, they could fit the whole course within the speedway easily. But alas, they chose the boring and inexplicably high profile Big Golf.

Non-commitment maybe-maybenot answer from Dominecali regarding the return of Germany

https://www.motorspo...rival/10298322/

But more interestingly (or maybe not), we have the confirmation on how the support race schedule for Monaco has changed:

https://www.formula1...hUYREVhFYr.html

So in the past, in the normal years it traditionally was

Thursday - F2 Practice & Qualifying

Friday - F2 Feature Race

Saturday - Renault/Alpine Race 1 + F2 Sprint Race

Sunday - Supercup Race + Renault/Alpine Race 2

But now it's more or less the same format as every other race, even the Sunday Supercup opener has switched places with the Regional series

The only exception is that Thursday still holds practice for the support series, but not qualifying

I like the modern day Hockenheimring.  It often provides good racing which that old tedious flat out blast through a forest never did.

But F1 should go to Templehof, like Formula E.  They could do a Miami job on it.

I'm assuming that the only reason there isn't a German GP is because there was not enough support from the paying customer to be viable. Does he really think people will flock to the track if Audi and/or VW were to join?

The only terrible bit about the GP Strecke is the twisty asphalt runoff filled first sector, the one that gets bypassed by the 24 Hours layout

Nürburgring and Hockenheimring are the only grade 1 circuits in Germany.

Looking at the list of grade 2 circuits they don't have particular good layouts either: Lausitzring, Oschersleben, Norisring and Sachsenring.

The only remotely fun one is imo Sachsenring with it's elevation and unusual left only layout. But is a bit to small for F1. But then again the outer Bahrain layout worked amazing imo. So what tracks are suited for F1 might need a rethink?

Would need to change blue flag rules first. Imagine if you pit and now you are lapped or have to let the whole field pass!

Sadly it's all forest now, so it won't happen. However the modern circuit is pretty good for racing so I'm not adverse to it coming back.

Agreed! I’m another fan of the modern Hockenheim. The racing quality has been good, and the long “straight” built to cut off the old forest section actually carries a bit of the old spirit. Too bad they didn’t plant more forest up to the edge of that piece of track

Don't give them any ideas. I'm seriously predicting that by 2030 half of the races (15/30) are (night/twilight) street races.
