Continuing to go through my late Fathers bits and bobs and I found these, Looks like Goodwood. I would say it would be around 1960/61 (the TR is a 59 I think) Anyone shed any light (I have every confidence!)

An early devotee of text message-type spelling?

Nice pics, size up the era well.

A bit of googling shows that the Ferrari RU8 was used as a promotional vehicle by Colonel Ronnie Hoare in around the right period.

Looking for something else in Autosport I saw RU 8 advertised for sale in the 6/7/62 issue.

Thanks

Unfortunately they are only about 50mm x 50mm so getting the quality is hard, I really like the Number 14 (Collins according to the back of the photo) one with, I believe, Alf Francis leaning into the cockpit. Is that Moss' Maserati with the Dunlop wheels? 1954?

I think the Maserati 250F#14  is the car run by BRM as an interim while the T25 was being designed and built. Tony Rudd is in shirtsleeves bending over talking to Peter Collins and Willy Southcott is in overalls beyond Tony Rudd.

The second picture looks like Roy Salvadori to me.  I guess we don't know the venue for these fascinating shots?

I think some (but obviously not all) of the photos were taken at Castle Combe at the 1st October 1955 meeting where the main race was the Avon Trophy for F1 cars. In this race Collins drove the Owen Maserati 250F #14 and Gould his own 250F #6. Peter Walker drove the Rob Walker Connaught #2, and Schell and Rosier both competed, with Schell winning the race for Vanwall. The Richardson RRA #44 photo would also appear to be at Castle Combe, although he didn’t take part in the F1 race.

Well spotted Tim. I was a little baffled by the snap of Peter in the Owen Maser'. I'd forgotten the Castle Combe meeting.

The last photo might be from the 20th August 1960 meeting at Goodwood, where Bob Hicks drove Caravelle #46 in the FJ races. If so, nos 31 and 32 across the paddock would be the Fitzwilliam Racing Lola Mk 2s of Juan Manuel Bordeu and Mike Anthony.

Castle Combe would fit as Father was a born and bred Bristolian

Surely that's Ron Flockhart in the BRM in the second to last picture? Or do my eyes deceive me?

Unfortunately they are only about 50mm x 50mm so getting the quality is hard...

Happy to help or offer repro tips if you're interested.

Agreed, and I’m pretty sure it’s also at Castle Combe. If it’s from the October 1955 meeting where some of the other photos were shot, this was the BRM V16’s last ever race.

Tim's correct, Castle Combe, 1st October 1955.

Richardson's RRA and Flockhart's BRM were in the Libre race. The second pic (& the blur!) will be Salvadori in Sid Greene's Maserati.

This photo is the Formula 2 race at Whitchurch in 1st August 1959. Ian Raby is in the sports-bodied Cooper, no.25

Your late father's images are just incredable. I agree completely with Pete that the last image is indeed Whitchurch. Like your dad, I'm a Bristolian, in fact the house I was brought up in backed onto what would of been the old Whitchurch airfield. I only read recently about the race there on the 1st August 1959, with Henry Taylor winning the formula 2 event in his T51 cooper and it effected me profoundly, especially as I am currently living overseas. I used to ride my bike on the old run way there. I had read a great deal about the airfields aviation past but didn't know about it being used as a racing track until very recently. Currently I've only seen two images from this event, one of them being your father's that you kindly shared here. I love Perter Swinger book where Whitchurch is featured but there's no images at all of the race. I would absolutely love to see any other images that your late father may of taken on this day. Thanks again for sharing! It's really appreciated! Todd.
