And Ekstrom chooses ETCR instead of WTCR. Cupra shift focus on ETCR and will soon turn off ICE and pull out like sisters VW and Audi. And Hyundai will follow. That leaves only two car company in WTCR (Honda and Lynk) and is doomed. ETCR will take over.

Indeed - TCR founder Marcello Lotti said at the launch event that he does not believe there will be combustion racing for this type of car in ten years time. They are basically openly planning for this to take over form TCR.

From 2022 we should start to see national and regional championships using the ETCR technical platform begin and promotor interest is apparantly there for that. Fascinating development to keep track of I think.

Some reporting on the race format descision and reasoning here

ETCR: Short Track Layouts Vital to Pure ETCR’s Unique Format
https://e-racing365....-unique-format/

- While ETCR cars will be capable of a WTCR-level 21-minute race distance, including the use of push-to-pass power boosts, the decision to use shorter races was made to have full throttle racing without energy management considerations.
- Ribiero and Gavory both denied that having shorter races than petrol-powered TCR cars will send the wrong message about electric vehicles, instead proposing that full-power races will be more exciting.
- Gavory: “I’m absolutely convinced that there will be many other forms of electric motorsport making demonstrations of durability and mileage and capacity. Motorsport is rich, and one series cannot have all the answers. You have to make some decisions. We have decided to go for the excitement, the appeal, the door-to-door, wheel-to-wheel."

Didn't know the test car was using Rimac components. Interesting that they were experiencing overheating issues with them.

Williams know what they're doing.

The Copenhagen Historic Granx Prix should be an interesting one as it's a pretty sweet little street circuit in Copenhagen. The event is supposed to adding a TCR Denmark round to the billing this year too.

Also the Goodwood Speed Week (combining the Festival of Speed and the Revivial on the Goodwood Circuit) should be a really interesting venue to see them at as well.

Other two are... a bit normal really.

If anyone is interested, the Cupra E-Racer is now available in RaceRoom and it's possible to drive it for free in a new competition:

http://game.raceroom...hampionships/60

I did a couple of laps and man, what a weird first experience. :D It makes you realize how much you rely on engine sound for judging cornering speed. I have to concentrate so hard to make every apex! I've driven FE cars virtually in the past, but the unique circuits make that a much less strange experience somehow, because the layouts and the car behavior can be learned together. But driving around Suzuka without having to shift and loud engine noise is quite challenging. Also, it has much more torque than traditional TCR cars, it understeers a lot under full throttle. (Oh and I'm not Mr. Löhner by the way, I was just shamelessly using his video.)

Some insight from the physics developer (with not particularly great sound quality unfortunately):

So PURE ETCR debuts this weekend at Motorland Aragón as a support event for WTCR. The organizers only mention a "demo battle", so I don't know what to expect yet, but I'm looking forward to how all this will look in practice.

It will definitely be interesting to see. I honestly don't know If having a thin grid demo event is a help or a hindrance. And the 'battle' format of circuit racing meets rallycross will surely either thrill or leave people cold. I really don't know yet.

What's really of interest to me is the ETCR ruleset as that will be rolled out across regional series in coming years. PureETCR is 'just' a flagship series which uses ETCR rules.

They've decided to have a rallycross style race format but without the off road sections. Sprint 'battles' of a few minutes at very high power and all that.

Why this and not a traditional 15 minute race at regular touring car power levels? I'm honestly not sure.

I read the other day that JK Vernay had been testing the Hyundai but I thought he had been signed by the Alfa Romeo team.

The FIA has announced that Pure ETCR (the Eurospeart Events promoted race series, not the ETCR ruleset) will be 'upgraded' to become the FIA eTouring Car World Cup from 2022

Cars looks good on track, very similar to regular WTCR's, but the coverage of the event is poor.

Not a smart way to kick off a new championship, you need to let people know about its existence first.

The format reminds me of Extreme E, but i think it's not suited for more traditional race cars like these.

Would be better to see the entire field racing & fighting in regular races, rather than 3 or 6 cars batteries wich makes this feels a bit "empty".

This format does not work for me to be honest. Two-three cars on the track isn't spectacular enough and the progress of the weekend is way too slow to keep the attention. I have a similar feeling with Extreme E as well, but at least driving off-road is spectacular enough on its own to keep me entertained for a while.
