There we go, with Perez crash, one of his mirrors got into the cockpit (albeit flying over the halo). It's a matter of time when a razor-sharp splinters of carbon fibre get deflected by halo and end up inside cockpit seriously hurting a driver.
Halo has been in use for many races now. So far nothing of that sort has happened. Halo is not there to protect against bits coming off of your own car.

Splinters of carbon fibre weigh very little. Helmet stops them from hitting a driver's head.

They also carry very little energy, are rapidly slowed down by air, and you'd be really unlucky for one to even penetrate a set of overalls.

Indycar style aeroscreen would be preferred.

Next, Porsche driver Antonio Felix da Costa was hit hard. Buemi's car virtually came flying off the right wall and crashed onto the Portuguese's cockpit area. "The halo saved my life today, I'm 100 percent sure. It was the scariest moment of my life," Felix da Costa told e-Formula.news. "Buemi and I were the first to arrive there without any warning and, of course, very fast. We didn't have a chance. I'm just happy that myself and everyone else is okay."

We buried a young driver last week who got T-boned in the cockpit area, yet we see the premier electric class drivers hardly make an effort in slowing down and having a very similar accident. And this time, visibility wasn't a thing.
Perhaps saving grace here is that these cars are slower and lighter with better side protection as it is a new-for-2023 chassis.

The halo did nothing there.

Why do you think Da Costa is lying about the halo? What effort do you think the drivers should have made?`Do you understand what a "blind corner" is?

Nah, this is the halo thread, he could have deflected that by sticking his tongue out. No point coming on here with your facts.

And yet, according to all reports, Cassidy was allowed to continue with a broken rollover hoop and a damaged halo. Hell of a series, Huh. Double waved yellows were being waved and they were all baling in flat out. Seems to me a few of them need benching.
Just so people can view things for themselves on this, here's a photo of Cassidy's car after Evans clattered over him on Sunday (which was't connected with the Saturday incident discussed in this thread thus far) which I have brightened to make the relevant section more visible.
The roll hoop camera was wiped off and some of the aero-fairings around the roll hoop structure are definitely broken, but the roll hoop structure itself is there and visible. Any potential damage to halo is not visible in this shot, but if there was any it would be towards rear (driver's) left mounting point as that's the direction Evans' car slid off.
The halo doesn't seem to have had much of an effect in this specific incident, but may have done if Evans' car had slid off at a slightly different angle.
And a further screen shot of a post-race interview with Cassidy from the official broadcast showing the car in the background

Yeah, Palou's front wing was there and visible at Toronto. Just want to mitigate the possibility of a chain of misunderstanding or exaggeration. All you need is one journalist to see a bit of rollhoop-shaped fairing hanging off and assume that the rollhoop itself is damaged too and you might end up with inaccurate descriptions of the damage, which in turn lead to more inaccurate descriptions etc., etc.Yeah, Palou's front wing was there and visible at Toronto. All good!
If there is a reliable, cast iron account (not based solely on visual assumptions) that the roll hoop/halo itself was definitely damaged and posed a safety issue then that’s equally worth considering. I haven’t seen one myself, but if you know of one I’m sure it would be a valuable addition to the discussion.
To be clear - not discounting the possibility, but evidence is better than heresay.

Every report that I've read says that the rollhoop was broken and the halo was damaged. In the same way as there are allegations that the clown in the drifting Mk1 Jaguar had transposed the fitting of the rear hubs. Sure, we can make up stats about accidents rates if you want to.Amazing how driving standards have plummeted given that we've gone from maybe 1 incident every 3 years to half-a-dozen per weekend.

I haven’t read any report claiming that. Which outlet said that?Every report that I've read says that the rollhoop was broken and the halo was damaged. One would hope that any damage to a mandatory safety feature of the car - even if it just appears to be a scratch in the paint - should be a mandatory retirement. It can never be clear exactly what damage has been done until it's fully examined and that cannot be done just by someone looking at it for a couple of seconds and if it's there for safety, then damage should equal retirement.
