Apparently there was some race on yesterday and that may have diverted our attention from more important matters... The unofficial livery competition RESULTS!

The viewers of the Autosport forum have delivered their verdict from this years selection.

Congratulations - to, well, me! and Disgrace, Nonesuch & Maustinsj!! A strong field - thanks to EVERYONE who contributed and/or voted. This competition relies on your creativity.

Having won last year I would like to hand my trophy to Disgrace - who was my personal pick as the strongest livery. Thank you and see you again next year!

Abdication ?... Is that allowed..? Who's got the rule book on this unprecedented move?

I would like to hand my equal 3rd place to JP as I may have (unconsciously and unknowingly) been influenced by his entry last year.

I also feel sorry for his result after strong showings in past years...

On a related note, what happened to all my paid bot-voters????

  • Fixed Poll (We have evidence)
  • The member who had held the competition, wining it by a suspicious 1 point gap
  • The winner insists to give his trophy to someone else

Now please somebody tell me, if this is not conspiracy, then what is it?

Congratulations to the winner, the appointed winner, the third-place pretender, and of course myself!

Thanks to Owen for organising the Livery Competition - always a highlight of the Autosport year! :p

Thanks also to Will Tyson from WPTFormula for providing a 2018-spec template for us all to draw on.

With Disgrace taking home the trophy, even if under curious circumstances, does this mean we'll see an Indycar-themed Livery Competition for 2019?

Congrаtulations with your fixed result Owen ;)

And congratulations to the rest as well. As Nonsuch mentioned above, it is always one of the highlights of the year.

As goes modern politics so goes the fortunes of the Livery thread.

How timely !!

I forward my gifted 3rd place to the absent genius that was Cool Beans.

Maybe I'm a bit impatient but I feel like it's time to ask about the 2019 competition. It can't come soon enough, we need every bit of help in surviving the off-season.

That's very early! If it drags out too long it's easier to lose interest and the moment, which seems to go well with the release of the new F1 cars.

That said, I was thinking about this recently. We already had quite a few folks using the Indycar template this year, and given that various people weren't too well pleased with the F1 template (not the file, which I'm sure people were thankful for, but rather the shape of modern F1 cars), maybe the Indycar template can be the platform for 2019?

How about a vote thread on that, first?

Sorry Beri.
Not everyone has a 1990’s PC. The medium is not an issue.
It’s whether or not you keep to the template and the work ‘is to scale’...

Paint (not 3d) is installed in Windows 10 as well

But I might have a go at the competition once it starts ;)

I appreciate the effort that went into creating the F1 template, but ... I agree! The Indycar shape is a much nicer canvas.

The template you guys used last year isn't exactly creativity inspiring, is it...

If there is a different template available (I understand there is an Indycar one?) I would probably vote for using that one for this year's competition.

Alright alright. I've already got many many great ideas so I'll spend my time trying to create a alternative F1 2019 template this evening. If successful I'll post it here.

The IndyCar template is cool, but I feel like it's not very well suited for our purposes. Just not enough space for any big design, you're basically limited to the sidepods and even those are broken up by the wheel cover things. If you want to stay realistic, it's very constrictive. F1's large engine cover and smoother sidepods make the canvas much more open. But obviously the shape of 2018 (and probably 2019 as well) F1 cars isn't very pretty, so if it was up to me I'd say screw keeping up with the new cars and just use the 2016 or 2017 template...

F1's large engine cover and smoother sidepods make the canvas much more open.

F1 does get extra bodywork there, but the difference is exaggerated a bit by a tendency to follow the side-pods in the design, which in F1 are very small and low; not so much on the Dallara.

Seeing as how not many people opted for the Indycar template, which was technically against the rules (!), it might pay off to give it another spin!

I've tried to update an older template to something a bit closer to a 2019 spec F1 car, which might be an option to use for this year's competition.

It's certainly not lacking in pixels! Nicely done.

I still prefer the Indycar, if only because it isn't marred by that awful contraption bolted on top, but I suppose we'll have to wait and see what the Designated Organiser, a.k.a Runner-Up thinks about it.

It's a fantasy competition anyways and a motorsport's forum too after all. So why not let aspiring designers apply their talent to any car. Lemans, F1, Indy, BTCC etc etc or even that transport truck that get them to the races?

Disagree as this is about creativity. Disgrace's use of the Indy and F1 templates are evidence.

That's fine with me. So if that's okay with others, I'll go ahead and set things up. I'll need two or three days.

In the meantime, please leave feedback on the template to be used.
