Not to mention it would mean they chose him over Button or Hamilton. You know, the two drivers who won the championship in two previous season. Doesn't make any sense.
Unless that offer was for a third driver role...

Well, ROS called it quits on Dec 2nd, so we still got a few minutes left
(or five days after the final race, hence we stil got until Friday)

IIRC (again). Barrichello was given the offer/was in talks with, at a time where Button was believed to be off the market. This is all going off memory from a national news site (where I'm from), but there it was said that Barrichello stalled a bit, seemingly trying to keep his seat at Brawn for 2010. And then stalled himself out of a McLaren seat when Button suddenly emerged on the market, and when Merc bought Brawn he was definitely out there as well.

That's sort of how I remember it. In my head Barrichello was in the frame to replace Kovalainen at McLaren when the Brawn/Mercedes lineup for 2010 was expected to be Button and Rosberg. Then when Jenson decided to make a move, McLaren obviously preferred him, and Mercedes chose to give Schumacher the comeback drive, giving Rubens little choice.
