Is it just me or does this race feel unusual tense given that one championship is decided and the other virtually as well?

Despite the blisters Ferrari had great pace on friday. They also have the strategy and straight line adventage. And the grip disadvantage at the start could be equalized by their usually better starts. I do see them as favourites, but there are plenty scenarios which could pull it in Mercedes favour, such as the possibility of Bottas jumping Vettel and thus giving Hamilton the gap he needs.

Would be cool to finally have a proper Hamilton/Vettel battle beyond the start.

Indeed.

Ferrari arguably have the faster car and arguably the better strategy, but Mercedes have track position and an on-form Lewis Hamilton... and I think Red Bull are definitely going to be in the mix as well.

Hopefully it's a good one, and can we please have some rain!!

British driver in a German car
German driver in an Italian car

Sharing the front row...

Who the hell is driver number three supposed to be and are all of them on their way to beat up Bernie?

#F1 #BBCF1 #BRAZILGP RACE: Temperature around 27C by race start at 1510hrs local time. A growing risk of showers, potentially heavy/thundery later this afternoon. As of 1300GMT, the latest FIA prognosis goes with 40% risk by 1500hrs local time, rising to 60% by 1600-1700 local.

If you're interested in some older racing, you can find a doc about Richard Seaman when he drove for Germany. Look for "Nazi Grand Prix" on Youtube.

A lot of it has to do with Merc performing poorly for two straight races.

Every weather report says something different again, 40% risk is not a lot, normally you need 80-90% so I wouldn't expect rain otherwise you will be disappointed again...

Not according to the telemetry on their Q3 laps. Merc/Ferrari had similar top speeds.

Worst possible thing to happen for this race is if the butler jumps Vettel - giving Hamilton the buffer he needs in stint 1 to make the win a formality.

Otherwise - if it’s Lewis-Seb after lap 1 - it should be a lot of fun.

His designation is wingman, not butler.

Valterri...Hamilton is closer to Schumachers records...than you. Can you confirm you understood that message :p But more than likely it'll be something like Raikkonen did in Hungary to protect Lewis for the constructors if for some reason Lewis isn't faster.

exactly

also a snippet by amus:

Another important note about the setup of the cars. Ferrari relies on more downforce than Mercedes. That explains why the Mercedes were on equal footing in qualifying. Ferrari needs the extra pressure to protect the rear tires. They blistered on Friday.

Lando on the grid walk? I'm fine with this. PdR watching another young driver swoop in to steal his job? I can definitely see Lando having a future in broadcasting. He's very comfortable in front of the camera.

So, how many corners until Vettel spins today?

Actually I’m thinking this has a potential to be a good battle between the top guys if they all get through lap 1 cleanly.

Not sure about the Ferrari's starting on S. Bottas and Verstappen surely will get a good run on them, plus it remains to be seen if it will be an advantage in the race at all.

Or if Vettel crashes out instead of spinning there'll be talk of karma, so careful what you wish for.
