It looks like a proper f1 car sizewise. These new cars are HUGE.

I really liked that video and thought Hamilton came across very personable, it really gave a sense of where he has come from and what he has achieved. I wonder where those car were kept and being stored?

Some quite moving comments from Lewis about the loss of Niki and the role he played within the team and with Lewis on a personal level:

Secret location ;)

Some weeks ago there was a Instagram-TV-whatever-it's-called-video with the guy responsible for the collection which is actually stored like this in that...eh warehouse? Although the McLaren was not part of the collection back then (or they didn't show it because the vid was done for/by Merc F1).

Lewis Hamilton says he will be "a machine" in Formula 1 year as he sets his sights on operating on "another level" than he has before.

That's typical Lewis, writes the most sentimental post ever and signs off with "I'll be a machine"

Yeah it's like in the pre-race interviews "I will do my best yadda yadda".

I am just waiting for some poor fellow to say something like "this car is a pile of sh!t so today I will be happy to roll around and not get into anyones way".

nothing wrong with that, cringed when I saw motorsport.com and others writing a story out of a random social media post that possibly doesnt even have that much to do with motor racing in the first place, though

He's been operating as a machine for a couple of years already, driving fast and relentless.

Never thought Lewis could transform himself to this level, really impressive.

He will beat all the records soon enough.

Mercedes set for crunch meeting to decide whether it will quit F1

The board of Mercedes‘ parent company Daimler will meet in two weeks’ time to decide whether to withdraw its team from Formula 1 at the end of the 2020 season.

RaceFans, in a joint investigation with Autocar, has learned the meeting will take place on February 12th. Mercedes’ current contract to participate in F1 expires at the end of this season.

Wonder where the ominous language is coming from. Are they deciding whether to withdraw or evaluating whether to continue.

So if all this happens, where does that leave Red Bull and the cars they are jointly developing with Aston Martin.

More on the Merc situation:

https://www.autocar....nsational-aston

Could be interesting but the concern would be loss of cars or stability in teams leading to a loss of cars in races.

Wasn't there a story about Roger Penske being interested in buying the team?

Penske already rubbished the idea. He said his plate is full and rightly so.

I will love for Merc to pull out for the shake up and driver market and teams. New regs and cutting costs dont suit them anyway as it takes away their advantage. They should revert to being an engine supplier. Toto and Stroll buying team will mean Geroge Russell and Lance Stroll in new team  :p

Very good news and not unexpected after the ties with the Ineos cycling team. Good to have another big sponsor onboard.

Ineos/Jim Ratcliffe could also end up as a potential buyer of the entire team should Mercedes pull out of team ownership after 2020.

AMD & Qualcomm operate in two different markets as far as I'm aware, so one doesn't have to replace the other.

But Qualcomm has gone from their partner list.

Deal with AMD seems to be a multi-year agreement, I guess this puts to bed any rumour that Mercedes may be leaving the sport soon.

You will never know it for sure, but everything i can see and follow around the team says to me they are staying. And a few Italian clickbait articles or Rencken don't change that view.

AMD is x86 and GPGPU for the most part with a very small amount of ARM server stuff. Qualcomm is mobile.

I feel like as long as Mercedes stay, they won't be beaten. I can never imagine Ferrari having that level of discipline/consistency over a season these days regardless of driver, and Red Bull have done an even worse job during the hybrid era (car-wise anyway). No 'midfield' team is anywhere close, and that likely won't be changing any time soon.

They're just ruthless in every area, even when Ferrari & Vettel were absolutely on it during the first half of 2017/18, Merc just stepped it up a level and broke them.

Obviously. I see no reason to think that anyone other than Mercedes (and Lewis) will be victorious in 2020, so if they were to leave it would be pretty hard to beat them. They would leave F1 as champions, just like Nico Rosberg.

For Red Bull the engine has been the main problem, they arguably had an equal or maybe even better car than Mercedes in 2017 and 2018. If Honda can produce a competitive engine I’m sure they will be challenging Mercedes/Hamilton with Verstappen.

Not so sure about the Redbull chassis in 2017, wasn't that the season they admitted they got something wrong at the beginning of the season.

Yeah, you’re right that was the year where they had the correlation issues with the wind tunnel which wasn’t solved until Barcelona.

Cheers Timorous.

I thought Qualcomm was exclusively a telecomms/communications company not semiconductors.

Racing Point/Aston Martin/Stroll SR is very close with Mercedes I read everywhere now, even with the Aston Martin take over.

Formula E championship leader Stoffel Vandoorne has been named reserve driver for the Mercedes Formula 1 team for the 2020 season. See here.

Good news as far as I'm concerned. Mercedes-AMG Petronas seem to know a thing or two. There was, in my view, a quite outrageous amount of ill-informed and sometimes downright nasty SvD bashing in forums in general in his last season at McLaren. It's just possible that the people running a six-in-a-row Constructors' Championship team know a whisker more than forum inhabitants.

He is leading the championship in FE and doing much better than de Vries. I think he is a good addition to the team.
