As many here will know, the dates have been announced for April 4 and 5. We plan to attend as we have for all but the first ( current era) Meeting.

In reading through some of the promotional and information material I had the sense that the event seems to be growing.....in the same way that Revival has, and which has caused a good number of us to patronize MM instead of Revival. It would truly be a shame if MM loses what little atmosphere of intimacy and casual enjoyment remains, in favor of a more, um, "inclusive" and "diverse" experience in terms of the interests catered for. And it does feel like more tickets to MM have been made available recently than in the earlier years. Aside from The Year of the Blizzard it seems to be more crowded every year. Still, we're very much looking forward to it. Next year will be our 12th. event at Goodwood.

We shall be there too: might spend less time around the paddock and more over by St Marys. Better crowd over there anyway.

Yeah . there's up to a dozen people there some times ...I love it it round the back of the circuit which seems reassuringly free of the preening fancy dress brigade(most of whom. I suspect , never venture beyond chicane / Madgwick /paddock )  . Great views - and sounds - and always interesting people to talk to as well .

Ok, I admit to being a denizen of Madgwick. Next time I'll trudge out to St. Mary's. Shall I look for you?:)

Do they do dressing up at the MM?  No wonder they won't let in the likes of me.

Some do . My fancy dress is an  impersonation of  an ageing  flaneur with no dress sense,  and an especial  stranger to crimson cords and Dubarry boots .

Shouldn't be really but the busier bits often look like the reunion a nineteenth century grouse-shooting party. I did wear a cravat one year, just as a gentle piddle-take but I think the only person who got the joke was me. Even my wife said I looked like an idiot (not for the first or last time).

Since Jack started this thread, the 2020 Members' Meeting has moved to 28/29 March, to avoid clashing with the Vietnamese GP.

A double booking that couldn't be avoided was the 80th birthday of a friend's mother-in-law, so I have a spare Sat/Sun/roving grandstand ticket and programme voucher for sale.

If anyone is interested, would they message me?

Thanks

Paul

Your right about St Marys, a favourite vantage point in the 1950's for Bank Holiday meetings  and the nine hour races. I'll be there for the members meeting, if only in spirit, no need to dress up for that!.

Incidentally thanks to P0wderf1nger: I hadn't noticed that date change, though I see my entry badge says 'Sat' on it with no date anyway.

A number of us who have to travel from further afield and book accommodation were wrong-footed by a Goodwood "date confirmed" email for the original date. Money has been lost and Goodwood's image tarnished - all for the Vietnamese GP ? !  Not very good.

Especially if the Vietnam GP falls victim to the dreaded lurgy!

Those of a certain age will chuckle at the idea that the dreaded lurgy may put the mockers on a Vietnam GP. Until a month ago I'd have said the biggest threat to a GP in the former North Vietnam was unexploded bombs. Can't blame the Kiwis' 25 pounders as they only saw action south of the DMZ.

Preparations were well underway when I passed by the circuit a few days ago.  All to no avail, it seems.

I wasn't expecting a refund, so I doubt many will be surprised or ask for one. But let's see how things go.

Hey guys, stop speculating, it hasn't been announced yet, I'm sure Goodwood will act in a professional manner..........there's enough of this negative speculation on the media at the moment....

Well, judging by the main page, they are still planning to go ahead - and the suggestion is that, if the worst comes to the worst, they will not cancel, but postpone.

I’m waiting for HMG to declare a ban on large outdoor gatherings which might prompt Goodwood’s insurance coverage to go into effect. At that point i’ll cancel our flights, accommodations and, most unfortunately, our annual meet-up with friends.

Sir Richard’s (or is that Sir Richer) airline is only offering a waiver of rebooking fees for flights departing before September 30, 2020.

I can see a rescheduling in the autumn, after Revival. It would be a shame to lose the event until next year.

As a club secretary we are cancelling all our events from after next weekend, social and competitive.  Fi1 got bad press for trying to continue.  You also have to remember than many of the officials and marshals are over 70 so they could be housebound.  it's sheer folly to continue.

I doubt anyone is in the office right now.

There's probably an embargoed press release out there already, which will likely coincide with a couple of mass emails to entrants and ticket holders ...

Me too: was very much looking forward to the Jaguar XJR demo. It would give them a bit more time to get a few more XJR-5/6/7/8/9/12s too. (apologies to XJRs with fewer than twelve pots).

Same here.

I just don´t understand that there still is no message from Goodwood.

We had been organizing a rally for pre war sports cars over Easter - until yesterday - and had to finally pull the plug and tell all participants in all parts of Germany and Europe (and UK... ;) ) that it can´t be done.

Rightly or wrongly motorsport in Europe and GB are going to be in trouble. Entrants cannot get out of their own countries and if like here in Oz no gatherings over 500 people.

It remains to be seen what happens in the next few weeks.

A contact in China seems to think it is not under control in China yet though maybe it has peaked. It is it seems all over the place there as well. Some factories are working yet other are closed.

Spain and Italy are in dire straights. Though I wonder if it is ME TOO with the figures.

FoS will most likely be "postponed" as well, with lots of luck the track revival might be able to go ahead. But then again, maybe not!?

The "herd immunity" experiment of Patrick Valance have luckily been abandoned, baffling how the government went along with it for so long.

Apart from a well hidden list of FAQ you would almost think that Goodwood Estate is not aware of the Covid-19 outbreak...

FoS will most likely be "postponed" as well,...

A six week build up will give them until late May to make a decision re. the FOS.

It would appear that Goodwood have chosen to break the news to competitors first which seems reasonable. The website will undoubatably be amended when everyone knows.....

Yes, I received the email this morning....postponed. I would think a date after Revival....if there is a Revival....would work. I hope there will be no consideration of the F1 calendar this time, as there has been in the past.

They might as well cut out any delusional talk and make tickets bought for this year's MM valid for next year straight away.

Festival of Greed will similarly not happen this year, oh well....

I do not see any motorsport for many months from what I read.  it takes time to organise any event and many of the main organisers in in the vulnerable age range, quite apart from competitors. Also moving dates to later in the year will create chaos and there are all the usual dates scheduled for the autumn and having more will cause huge issues. If any event can't run this year then just cancel, that is certainly what my club has done.

Apparently there will be 'live' streaming of past MM highlights this weekend.

The MM and FoS are not going to happen this year.  WIth their horse racing to accommodate as well as the Revival in the rump of the year, there won't be any spare time.

To add verisimilitude I shall rise at 6am (having been awake from 4-45am with excitement )  before  pretending  to drive my MX5 for the 15 minutes it takes from the  B & B to Goodwood . Once there I will  read The Times in the car until 7am , when it's time to wander back to the kitchen . I will give Joanne a ten pound note in exchange for a flat white and bacon roll and then I shall turn on my big TV ... .

Would be lovely but if you recall the TV documentary of a year or so back about the goodwood estate, their annual calendar of car and horse events is carefully spaced out to allow them to do the necessary admin and preparation work.  Remember it is just the Duke and his butler making all the arrangements (although Doug Nye does give a hand sometimes)

I’d be happy enough if only MM happened, and given its scale it would probably be logistically less challenging than either FOS or Revival.
